Beaumont Blast 4/2/17

COUNTDOWN TO EARTH DAY - APRIL 21 FRI.

The Community Service Committee invites you to participate in our Countdown to Earth Day celebration. Beginning Monday, April 3 and ending on Friday, April 21, we will be asking students and staff to participate in activities that help our planet. This may include bringing in waste to be Terracycled, turning off the water when they brush their teeth, turning off a light when they leave a room, etc. Each time a child participates in an earth-saving activity, they can write down what they did on a colored square (reusing paper from the Beaumont copy room) and attach it to our "Earth" that will be in the lobby. On Earth Day, we hope to have filled our "Earth" with color and present how much we have Terracycled over the course of the year.
In addition, we will be presenting a weekly activity/challenge that you can complete at home. This week, find out your ecological footprint by taking this quiz. For questions, contact
Valerie Cheng, Jen Bacani, and Jen Bracco.

Did you know that recycling saves water? It takes more water to make something with new materials than if you used recycled materials. For example, recycling one ton of paper not only saves 17 trees but also 7000 gallons of water.
MOVIE NIGHT- APRIL 21, FRIDAY, 6pm-8pm
The HSA presents SING the Movie on Friday, April 21, from 6-8p. Sign up by sending in your registration form and payment by April 20. Any questions, please contact Magan Pilato at MaganPilato@yahoo.com or Andrea Krick at 2krickkids@gmail.com.

PSSA TESTING BEGINS THIS WEEK (GRADES 3 - 4)
Testing begins on Tuesday, April 4. If your child is participating in the PSSA tests, please make sure they are on time for school. Students are reminded to eat a good breakfast and get plenty of rest!

NEW DRAMA CLUB AT BEAUMONT
Wolf Performing Arts Center (Wolf PAC), a non-profit theatre organization for children, will be offering an after-school dramatic arts class for students in grades 1-4 at Beaumont Elementary School, beginning April 24
Acting Essentials is a class that focuses on the exploration of the dramatic arts. This 5-week session will cover improvisation, public speaking, character development, elements of storytelling and other essential dramatic arts skills. Most of all, students will gain confidence in a safe, supportive environment.
Why should your child experience a Drama class?
·       They will expand their creative thinking.
·       They will develop skills in teamwork and ensemble-building.
·       They will build confidence, character and creativity while having fun.
·       They will enhance their critical thinking skills and so much more!
See attached flyer for more information and click here to register.

FOURTH GRADE MASH
A huge thank you to all of the 4th graders and their parents who have volunteered at the school store this year – hope you have enjoyed it!  We invited every volunteer (based on the sign-ups in September) to staff the school store at least twice this year; however, I recognize that some children might not have been able to attend due to sickness or other conflicts.  We tried to make those up, so that everyone had a chance to participate, but if for some reason your child has wanted to staff the school store and has not yet had the opportunity, please reach out to me at himani.shah@astrazeneca.com, and I will be sure to include them in one of the April or May dates.  Also, if you are looking for a way to help celebrate your child’s birthday in the classroom, you can purchase Beaumont Bucks, which are $1 gift certificates that your child can redeem at the school store.  If you are interested in purchasing Beaumont Bucks, please also let me know.  All proceeds benefit the charity that the fourth graders have chosen.  Thanks!

READING CONNECTIONS
Beaumont subscribes to Reading Connection which is a monthly newsletter from Resources for Educators. Reading Connection delivers tips and activities for parents to support children’s reading, writing, and language development, which are aligned to the Common Core State Standards.  Please check out April's newsletters for Beginning Readers and Intermediate Readers.

BEAUMONT AND THE HSA NEED HELP!
Please contact Courtney O'Brien with any questions about the openings below.

1. Book Fair -
We need two additional book fair chairs for the 2017-2018 school year. Please consider joining this fun group to lead the two 📚 book fairs sponsored by the HSA. Both Mary Hashemi and Renee DelViscio will be leaving Beaumont at the end of the school year and will help with the transition.

2. Cultural Arts - For the 2017-2018 school year, we need two volunteers to work together to plan all school assemblies. These people will coordinate schedules, contracts and assembly day details with lead teachers and staff at Beaumont as well as with the assembly providers. Chairs will also attend periodic Delta meetings at Easttown Library. This is a fun and rewarding job that gives chairs an opportunity to bring assemblies into our school and see firsthand the children's enthusiasm and excitement about being exposed to different cultural and art related experiences. Current chairs Alicia Asselta and Lindsey Weber.

3. Pizza Bingo - We need two or more chairs to lead Pizza Bingo for the 2017-2018 school year.  This is a popular event that is fun for all involved.  Current chairs: Katie Galef, Min Lubiniecki, and Angie Polizzi.
