Wednesday 7 April is World Health Day. In light of this, our health challenge for this coming month is to...
Get Healthy!

This month I am challenging myself and you! This month I am going to start ‘stepping towards health’.

I am only too aware that waking up on the 1st January and deciding to be healthy is much harder than it seems. The intention may be there, the will may be there, but the discipline...well frankly, that just simply alludes me. So after my New Year’s resolution to get healthy crashed dismally by the 2nd of January (while tucking into the left over Christmas cake while vegging on the couch watching movies) and continued to crash every single day of each month following, while writing this article I have motivated myself to pull up my socks and start taking small steps in the right direction.

I have the knowledge required to get healthy, so why not just jump in head first and DO IT!? Well it’s simple... I’m lazy! So instead of JUMPING, I will be tip toeing...

If I jump, I inevitable fall flat on my face and end up beating myself up about how lazy I am, how unmotivated I am, how undisciplined I am etc etc... and end up justifying why it’s ok to just maintain the status quo. But if I tip toe, I might just get somewhere instead of eating Christmas cake on the couch until next January!

I will start by making sure I eat 3 times a day. No more skipping meals for me because I’m simply too busy. I will plan healthy meals ahead of time and pack lunches and make sure I take the time to eat them.

I will drink more water. I will take a glass water bottle to work with me and I will drink it at my desk and fill it up at least once during the day.

I will be going to bed before 10pm and going to SLEEP! No more reading until the book falls on my face and I wake up the next morning feeling like I’ve barely closed my eyes...

I will get MOVING! I will get up from my desk every half hour and I will take a walk down the passage. I will be carrying fewer parcels in one go out of my car and into my house, instead I will make more trips. I will choose the stairs over the escalator. I will take my children for walks. And slowly I will be moving more and more and I will feel the difference in my energy levels. And one day, I might just crack out those pilates DVDs collecting dust in my DVD rack and start doing them!

But in the meantime I will be kind to myself and take it step by step. No matter how big the steps are, at least they’re going in the right direction! Join me?

Take care of yourself, you are worth it!

R3014 was raised by our My Village supporters in March!
We are thrilled with this amount but we are aware that now that Christmas spending is done, that figure will drop significantly. We unfortunately only average at R1600 per month. We desperately need help to reach our target of R2500 per month in 2017.

This is a passive and most importantly a sustainable form of income for us and one that is so easy to administer, saving precious time which enables us to focus on the many fundraising activities within our organisation.

This so easy it achieve with the help of you, our loyal Friends of Hospice. If you already have a card, please click on

https://www.myschool.co.za/supporter/update/ to check that 'Knysna Hospice' is nominated as one of/your only beneficiary. If you do not have a card yet, please pop into the office to collect an application form, we will even submit it for you and issue your card here at the office.  Please encourage your friends and families to take out cards and name us as the beneficiary.

Just a reminder that you can earn money for Knysna Sedgefield Hospice just by swiping your My Village card at Woolworths, Engen 1 Stop shops, Falcon Spur, Wimpy and many others.  Your contribution is greatly appreciated!
