Drinking Water System Summary Report & Overview
At last night's Council meeting, James Sticca, Manager of Environmental Services, provided an update to Council, on the City's Drinking Water System, including the Drinking Water Quality Management System Management Review. The Management Review evaluates the suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of the quality management system.
This year's report confirms that the City is operating in accordance with all current legislation and is taking appropriate measures to guarantee the safety of the drinking water quality to all of its consumers.

2017 Water & Wastewater Budget
Todd Harrison, Director of Finance, made a presentation last night to Council on the City's 2017 Water & Wastewater Budget.
Highlight of the presentation include:
- New rates approved - effective April 1, 2017
- For the average residential homeowner, the cost will decrease by 2.87%.
- A new meter replacement program will start in Fall of 2017
- Staff will provide an update on the Asset Management Plan as it related to water/wasterwater assets in 2018 budget

Starter Company Plus Funding
Last night, Council authorized the signing of the Starter Company Grant Agreement, between the Small Business Enterprise Centre (SBEC) and Ministry of Economic Development and Growth (MEDG). The agreement will provide funding from the Province for the delivery of the Starter Company Plus program, and will last until March 31, 2019, providing a total of $200,000.
The Starter Company Plus program builds on the Starter Company program; and will provide new and existing businesses with access to training, mentoring and an opportunity to obtain grant funding to start expand their businesses.

Gene Somerville Naming Request
The request to name the Niagara Falls Fire Station 4 Firefighter Museum in recognition of Gene Somervile was approved by Council last night. Somerville served as a 32-year member of the department with 25 years as District Chief of what was then known as the Chippawa Volunteer Fire Department in the City of Niagara Falls. Along with his long and distinguished service, he was instrumental in having the new Chippawa fire station built in 1960.

Dig Safe Month
The month of April has been proclaimed as Dig Safe Month in the City of Niagara Falls. Dig Safe Month is designed to coincide with the unofficial start of spring digging season and to serve as a reminder to homeowners and contractors that they need to call or click before they start digging.

Autism Awareness Day
Council proclaimed April 3, 2017 as "Autism Awareness Day" in Niagara Falls. To formally acknowledge the day, an Autism Ontario flag will be raised on April 3. This day helps increase public awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and the day-to-day issues faced by people with autism and their families.

Oncology Nursing Day
April 4th, 2017 has been proclaimed as Oncology Nursing Day in Niagara Falls, celebrating and supporting the work of Oncology nurses throughout the Country. The theme for 2017 is "The Path to Change: Oncology Nurses Leading the Way".

Stair Climb for Children's Cancer: 25 Years
Step up in the fight against childhood cancer by climbing the 660 steps up the Skylon Tower on Saturday April 22, 2017. Proceeds from the event will be split between childhood cancer research funded by the Canadian Cancer Society and the Wheels of Hope Transportation Program helping local families with their cancer treatment transportation needs.
