Spring Concert Next Thursday
A reminder that our Spring Concert is coming up on Thursday, April 6th. The students are working hard in both choir and orchestra to prepare a wonderful evening of music! The concert begins at 6pm. All students performing in choir should arrive no later than 5:45pm. Students performing in orchestra should arrive no later than 5:30pm to warm up.

As this is the only after-school event required by the music program, we ask that all students’ grades 5-8 prioritize this concert above their usual Thursday evening activities. It is important that all grades have full attendance to support each other on stage.

Students are to wear their class colors in combination with black and white. Students performing in orchestra must be able to remove or cover their colorful item of clothing easily to perform in black and white for orchestra. Class colors are as follows:

Grade 5: Yellow
Grade 6: Red
Grade 7: Blue
Grade 8: Purple

Also, if any parent is able to volunteer as the designated videographer and share the recording of this concert with parents and staff, please contact the choir director, Kathleen Austin, at: kmamusic144@gmail.com. We would like to have one designated person to record with a quality camera and stationary tripod, so that others can enjoy the concert without distraction. Many thanks, Kathleen Austin
Next Parent Education Event –save the date!
Mark your calendars, on Wednesday, April 26th Ben Klocek will be coming to SunRidge to discuss the following topic: Transforming Habits of Tech: Creating a World that Reflects the Heart. This will be a presentation and discussion to explore what we can do to prepare ourselves and our children to thrive in the digitally-focused world, without sacrificing imagination, creativity, deep-thinking, presence, and our relationships.

As we cope with the unprecedented convergence of ubiquitous, sophisticated, alluring, habit-forming screen technology, taking time to reflect on the quality of our daily experience can lead to new ways of being, where we are masters of our tech, instead of its servants. We will explore ways to form healthy tech habits for you and your children.
What did SunRidge teachers do last Friday when there wasn’t school?
I’m glad you asked! While our Kindergarten teachers held parent conferences, other faculty members visited local Waldorf schools and observed a colleague teach. The middle school faculty also met to review and recommend books to purchase for the Library that will expand what’s available for 6-8th grade students. We hope you and your children enjoyed the 3-day weekend!
Why we do tardies the way we do…
If students arrive after the bell rings we ask that they check-in at office before they head to their class. The reason for this is as follows:

1. Accuracy of record.
2. Clipboard may be turned into the office before the student arrives therefore the teacher would not be able to record the tardy.
3. Safety –if a class is on a walkabout we will know and keep the child in the office.
Auction Appreciations
This year’s annual auction raised over $24,000 in just two weeks. None of this could have been possible without the generous help from our amazing parent volunteers who put in many hours to get all 399 items donated, organized, photographed, put up onto the website and marketed the auction.  We GREATLY appreciate all your hard work and thanks also to everyone who bid!

March in the Garden
As the days lengthen and blossoms tickle our vision and catch our eyes, the children embody the essence of the bees as they hustle and bustle around the garden. All these busy helpers, are now becoming active in the construction of our gardens.

Have you noticed the many transformations happening? Thanks to our gardening classes the infrastructure for each garden area is being developed quickly. For an example, check out the Wild Food Forest on the hillside above the back parking lot, which has fruit-bearing trees, squash, and medicine plants (yarrow, comfrey, plantain, and calendula). We are also planting beans around the trees to deter gophers. What’s where:
  • The boxes in the pick up area have morning glories and sweet peas.
  • The beds in front of the woodworking area have pomegranate and tomato plants as well as the medicinal plants red clover and chamomile.
  • The hillside surrounding the playground has marjoram and sages that have been transplanted. Gazanias will soon be planted to create a mural of flowers.
  • In the area between the class buildings, crabgrass is being eradicated and soil amendment will be added. We will harvest broccoli and lettuce seed to stimulate our seed library. In this area we have various kale, chard, broccoli, and pea plants, along with the following two types of medicinal plants (echinacea and calendula).
  • The garden along the back of the Library is now a habitat for tadpoles. Students will be gradually adding Dragonfly larva to eat the mosquito larva. These beds contain both annuals and perennials. As the Penstemon grow larger we will spread them out. The back wall provides a lovely radiant heat that will support our peppers. Food: Pear tree, Crab apple, Pineapple Guava, Bluberries, Rainbow chard, Peppers.
  • Stay tuned next week for a glimpse into more areas of our emerging campus garden...
Want to help? Look on the board in the Garden lab to see what chores need to be done. There will always be a need from here on out to weed, water, or sweep.

At Solstice Yoga and Farm Camp we provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can strengthen their sense of confidence, focus, breath, creativity, physical awareness and appreciation of their whole being and the natural world through yoga, movement, music, art, farming, nature, and exploring plants.

Yoga awakens the children's creativity and intrinsic love of exploring their bodies inspired by animals and the natural world. Each day there is a theme or focus that threads through all of the activities. Activities are inspired by the yogic intention of breathing, focusing, creativity, peace, and awareness. Instructors are Kelly Schwartz-Deal, and Lauren Ohlsen, who are both credentialed teachers as well as Meryl Juniper, a well-known local art teacher. Together they lead offering support and encouragement for the exploration of yogic movement and technique, artistic creativity, movement and musical expression, and experiences with nature.
