A reception for Leslie this Friday, March 31

Two gicleé reproductions and seven other original Leslie Lee paintings are on display at Frame Central on SW Macadam during the month of March. A closing reception will be held on Friday March 31 from 6-8 PM. Bring a friend, enjoy the nibbles and peruse art in the friendliest frame shop in Portland.
Leslie would greatly enjoy a visit with you!

A framed print of Lights in the Tempest (above) and a canvas print of The Man Who Would be King are two examples of Leslie's quality gicleé reproductions included in this show of original oil paintings. The gicleés are printed locally at Symbiosis Printing. Macadam Frame Central continues to generously offer a 20% discount on framing any work by Leslie Lee, regardless of where it was purchased.

Dennis at the NCECA Conference

Every year the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts organizes a conference, including many shows, that attracts ceramists from all over the world. This year it was at Portland's Oregon Convention Center March 22- 25, and since it was in our "backyard", Dennis participated.

Dennis was unsure of how many people would be interested in his TOPICAL DISCUSSION: CERAMICS IN A TIME OF CLIMATE CHANGE but the room was packed to overflowing! An estimated 300 people listened to Portland State University climate scientist Chris Butenhoff  kick off the discussion with a short slide lecture after which Kate MacDowell and Richard Notkin, ceramic artists known for their social commentary, shared their views. Dennis was so gratified to see the interest in this topic. Next step? Pulling together an article for Ceramics Monthly Magazine, per their request.

Ceramics Monthly also scheduled a film shoot with Dennis in his studio. The result will be part of a video series featuring ceramic artists of note around the country. If you are a potter watch for this in CM's Ceramic Arts Daily email posts. (or wait until we announce it here).

Then, as soon as the filming was over Dennis scurried back to the Convention Center to present a demo called PROCESS: SPRIGS, ROLLERS, ET AL: MAKING NARRATIVE SURFACES. The demonstration covered, in a brief half hour, the use of homemade rolling stamps, sprigs and other tools to make up and illustrate visual stories on clay surfaces. The audience for this was about 1000, where Dennis was dwarfed between two HUGE screens. Here's a clip:

Dennis was in several shows around town and received a Juror's Award at THE OREGON POTTERS' ASSOCIATION "ALCHEMY OF SURFACE",
an invitational members show at Skutt Ceramics in S.E. Portland. A cash prize and a pat of the back from local peers is always a welcome boost.

Next "Give Yourself A DAY TO PAINT" Session is Sunday, April 23

The March session was a blast!

What ARE we doing? Mostly having a really good time finding out what it's like to paint with no expectations or boundaries. These sessions are not classes - they are experiences.
Those who have attended the PAINT DAY sessions will be able to join monthly Open Studio sessions to continue exploring with Leslie's guidance.
