Melanie Fisk, Executive Director of Literacy Advance of Houston, speaks at the Gulf Coast Literacy Symposium in Pearland on March 11th.
Time is running out . . .

There are two symposiums left this spring, which means just two more chances to take advantage of the quality training sessions, networking opportunities, and professional development that our events offer. The next one is coming up in just a few days, on April 8th in Lubbock. You can read more about our keynote speaker, New York Times bestselling author Jodi Thomas, and check out the schedule here.

Our final symposium will take place in Waco on May 6th, in partnership with Literacy ConneXus. The day will feature a keynote speech by Maggie Vasut, Baylor graduate and former adult learner, as well as a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Laubach Literacy Center in Waco (complete with cupcakes)!

Registration is easy -- and did we mention it's completely free? Just click the link below!

How can we help you?

Struggling to find a lesson plan for your classroom, or miss out on a symposium session you were excited to attend? We suggest a trip to the resources section of our website! We've built up quite the collection of helpful websites and apps that you can use both in and outside of the classroom, as well as many of the presentation handouts and slideshows from our symposium sessions. Just head to literacytexas.org/resources -- and make sure to bookmark it and check back for regular updates!
Prepare yourself -- there's just one month left until registration opens for our 2017 Conference! If you haven't attended before, here's the rundown:

The Literacy Texas Conference offers two full days of professional development by adult education and literacy professionals from all over Texas. There's also an optional third day, where an additional $100 gets you seats in two 3-hour workshops on the topics of your choice.

Sound too good to be true? It gets better. If you work for an adult education or literacy organization that does not receive funding from the TWC, you're eligible for scholarship funding. This means we'll waive all of your registration fees for the conference. There are no complicated forms to fill out, either. You register, we confirm your eligibility with your supervisor, and you're set. We're not fooling -- it's really that easy!

The Literacy Texas Conference is the premier conference for adult education in Texas, and you won't want to miss out. Mark your calendar for May 1st and get your registration in early!

WAM! @ the LT Blog

This month, we're excited to announce the debut of our new blog. In it, we'll focus on new technology, resources you can use in your classroom, information about our upcoming events, and more. To begin, we're hosting Workforce Awareness Month (or, as we like to call it, WAM!) throughout the month of April. Starting on the 5th, check back every Wednesday for a post about your Workforce Development Board and how you can use it to your advantage. Bookmark literacytexas.org/blog, and make sure to check in on the 5th!
