Gippsland Lakes Weekend Away

This is the inaugural year for an exciting new MSA event in country Victoria. It is set to take place on the weekend before ANZAC day in Paynesville at the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club. There will be activities on and off water including a dinner and movie night on the Saturday, coaching on water by Paul Rogers, as well as racing which counts towards our Travellers series. The event is for both Open fleet and Novice fleet. 

So come along, help celebrate the end of the sailing season by spending a fun weekend with some familiar Minnow sailing families as well as meeting the Minnow families of the Gippsland Lakes.

The Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club in conjunction with the MSA is proud to be hosting the final of the Minnow Association Travellers series on the 22 & 23 April, and welcome Minnow sailing families to Paynesville on the heart of the Gippsland Lakes.

The format for the weekend:-

Saturday 22 April:           

  • 12noon. Registration, welcome and introductions at the GLYC clubrooms
  • 1pm. Session One: On water coaching. Following coaching there will be racing in the bay in front of the club rooms. These race(s) will count towards the MSA travellers series.
  • 6.30pm. BBQ and movie night at GLYC clubrooms ($15 kids & $20 adults – please book and pay at Saturday’s registration)

Sunday 23 April:              

  • 9am. Session Two: On water coaching and then racing in the bay in front of the club rooms. These race(s) will count towards the MSA travellers series.
  • 12noon. Lunch
  • 1pm. Session Three (optional for those not needing to head back to Melbourne early afternoon). Open fleet (optional) – racing on Lake Victoria as part of GLYC’s Divisional Series. Novice and open fleet (optional) - destination sail.
  • 4pm. Closing and presentations


Online Booking for Coaching/Racing: Online booking link. The cost of the coaching & racing is $80 for the first child in each family, $70 for second and $60 for third. This cost does not include accommodation or dinner on the Saturday night.

Accommodation options: please book early as the 22 & 23 April is right before the ANZAC day public holiday on the Tuesday, with a number of families looking to take the additional days for a long long weekend.

The Abbey on Raymond Island (30 min walk to GLYC, 15 min drive with ferry trip): units, cottage and dormitory with some camping available. Further informationA number of Minnow families are planning to book here.

Resthaven Caravan Park, Paynesville (10-15 min walk to GLYC, 3 min drive): camping and cabins available

Mariners Cove, Paynesville (5 min walk to GLYC, 1 min drive): motel rooms, family rooms & apartments (sleep 6) available

Captains Cove, Paynesville (15-20 min walk to GLYC, 5 min drive): 1, 2 & 3 bedroom waterfront apartments available

When booking please mention that you are coming for the Minnow weekend at the yacht club, to access any specials available.
