And we're off...

The wait is over as our senior and intermediate hurlers begin their competitive season this weekend with home ties against Newmarket and Parteen respectively.

The boost of our Under 21 hurlers reaching the B Final has certainly commenced the 2017 season on the frontfoot, with the senior and intermediate hurlers bidding to maintain that early momentum this weekend.
With only three competitive outings until the opening round of the senior and intermediate championships, the league takes on even more importance this year. The seniors host neighbours Newmarket-on-Fergus on Sunday evening at 6.30pm on their return to the top tier of the Clare Cup before embarking on two away ties against O'Callaghan's Mills and Clooney-Quin as they zone in on a first round meeting with Sixmilebridge in the senior championship on the weekend of May 13/14th.
The intermediates meanwhile, after consolidating their Division 2 League status, welcome Parteen to Clarecastle tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm ahead of away encounters with Inagh-Kilnamona and Smith O'Brien's in April.
With the intermediate championship reverting to a more dynamic knock-out system with a backdoor, identical to the senior version, Clarecastle will face 2015 Junior A champions Clonlara in their opening Intermediate Championship match in mid-May.
We wish both teams all the very best this weekend and urge supporters to come out for these important home ties.

Final awaits for superb Under 21's

Three victories in as many weekends have seen the Under 21 hurlers advance to the Under 21B Championship Final on Easter Weekend against either O'Callaghan's Mills or Scariff/Ogonnelloe

Last chance to book vital heart check

With only limited places remaining for the historic Cardiac Screening Programme that is taking place in Clarecastle GAA on Saturday week, April 8th from 9.30am-5pm, book now to avoid disappointment in what could be a crucial lifesaving heart check.
With an alarming increase in Sudden Adult Death Sydrome in recent years that has seen up to 100 young people per year dying from SADS in Ireland, Clarecastle GAA are hosting this worthwhile check to our members in our ongoing aim of promoting a healthier lifestyle.
1 in 300 people may have a cardiac abnormality and not even know it so please avail of this unique service.
No matter what your perceived fitness or health is, this is an important and timely evaluation. In Italy, cardiac screening is mandatory for those involved in competitive sport for the past 25 years and they have reduced the incidents of SADS by 89%.
The clinic will be open from 9.30am-5pm, with each screening will take 20/25 minutes and includes a personal and family history questionnaire, a physical examination with a medical doctor, a 12 lead electrocardiogram and a cardiologists report.

Bookings can be made by clicking the following link Clarecastle Cardiac Screening

Members can use Credit or Debit cards to book an appointment. Anyone with LAYA is FREE but must make a booking too. Everyone else must pay the €65 fee which is tax deductible. Anyone with other health insurance may be able to claim a percentage back at the end of the year.

Please spread the word and with limited time slots, book early to avoid disappointment.

Magpies' Inter-County update

Clare and Kerry both have survival on their minds this weekend as they bid to secure their National League Division 1 statuses.
Despite Bobby Duggan coming on as a late sub and scoring a point with his first touch, Clare suffered a 2-21 to 1-22 reverse to Waterford last Sunday which pits them in a winner-takes-all relegation clash with Dublin back in Cusack Park this Sunday at 4pm.
The previous evening, Patrick Kelly's Kerry face a similar predicament in Division 1B as they travel to Portlaoise to take on hosts Laois at 7pm.
Both Clare and Kerry have recorded victories over their weekend's opponents in this year's league campaign but in a one-off game, expect plenty of drama before the demotion candidates are confirmed.

Also best wishes to Lee Brack, Eoghan Wallace and the Clare minor hurlers who face Waterford in the quarter-final of the Munster Minor Championship in Cusack Park next Wednesday at 7pm.

The Clare minor camogie squad, with Hannah Dinan amongst their panel, suffered their first defeat in the All-Ireland A Championship last Sunday with a minimum defeat to hosts Kilkenny by 2-12 to 2-11 but can still cement their place in the last four tomorrow (Saturday) when facing Wexford in their final group outing in Gurteen at 1.30pm.

Fine-tune your camogie skills over the Easter holidays

Online E-Vetting

With the eagerly awaited start of underage activities on Monday, Clarecastle GAA Children’s Officer James McMahon is reminding all coaches that Garda vetting is now a mandatory requirement under the Children & Vulnerable Persons Acts 2012 – 2016.
Clarecastle GAA commenced this good practice in 2009 but in 2017 it is a criminal offence to permit any person to coach, manage or train underage teams or adult teams that contain any player under 18 unless they have first obtained a vetting disclosure from the National Vetting Bureau.
A user friendly online or E-Vetting system can be accessed by clicking on the following link
When you complete the GAA on-line E-Vetting Application Form, the information is forwarded to the National Vetting Bureau by the GAA and you will receive an on-line NVB Vetting Form to complete. The details entered will be emailed back to you and the Clarecastle Club Secretary will receive an email that you have applied. The NVB will issue you with the NVB Vetting Application form to the email address you provided.
Completing this form is a confidential matter between you and the NVB. All sections of the form including current and previous addresses, email address and contact telephone numbers, information on convictions and prosecutions (if any), plus other information will be required when completing the form. Once all sections of the form have been answered you submit your application.
You will be contacted by the GAA informing you of the outcome of the vetting application and Clarecastle Club Secretary will be notified when the vetting process has been completed.
Garda vetting can only be done online and Clarecastle GAA Childrens Officers James and Toni will be on site on Monday to assist any coach who needs to apply or reapply if vetted prior to 2012.
To assist they will need your name, address, date of birth, email address and proof of identity on Monday evening.

Munster U15A Final for Magpie quartet

Nenagh will be the venue for St Flannan's Munster Under 15A Hurling Championship decider against Thurles CBS on Wednesday at 1.30pm after the Ennis college edged a gritty semi-final against Árdscoil Ris by 1-14 to 2-09 in Sixmilebridge last Wednesday.
Having brushed off CBC Cork by 5-23 to 0-00 in the quarter-final, this was a much more stern evaluation for Brendan Bugler's side with the Limerick school taking the whip hand in the opening period backed by the conditions, only for Flannan's to take over in a strong second half display.
Cian Broderick, Conor Halpin and Cian Galvin all started for St Flannan's while Evan Dolan was amongst the subs, with wing-forward Galvin (pictured above) firing 11 points to guide his side over the line.
Well done Magpies and best of luck in the final!

Mixed results from hectic ladies football weekend

It was a busy weekend for our ladies footballers with four competitive ties at Under 12, 14, 16 and adult levels. The Under 16's began their Division 2 Championship on Friday at home to Miltown and despite performing well for the majority with goals from Emma O'Donoghue and Aoibhin Donnelly, the visitors eventually pulled away in the final quarter.
On Saturday, the Under 12's (pictured above) were agonisingly edged out by a point against Clooney-Quin at 3-4 to 3-3 with Brooke McInerney (2) and Roisin Halpin grabbing the goals while the following day, a 17 goal thriller was also shaded by Miltown at Under 14 level.
Then on Monday, Clarecastle's adult side got their 2017 season off to the perfect start with a 4-07 to 1-13 victory over the Banner in the Division 4 League thanks to goal from Alex Potter, Mary Kate Moloney, Chloe Devitt and Isabel Scanlon.
