Tree-mendous!

Residents pitched in to help make Haringey even greener, rolling up their sleeves to plant new trees.

Children, community groups and Cabinet Member for Environment Cllr Peray Ahmet helped plant the trees following a successful council bid for a £21,800 grant from the GLA.

Downhills, Bruce Castle and Markfield parks shared 45 trees. It means across the borough more than 200 trees have been delivered during a busy season of planting.

Grand plans for Wood Green

Consultation on ambitious proposals that could transform Wood Green into one of London's most exciting destinations has been extended.

Hundreds of residents have already shared their views on the multi-billion pound plans, which outline how more than 7,700 homes and 4,000 new jobs could go hand-in-hand with a modern new town centre.

The consultation has been extended for four more weeks to allow even more people to have their say.

Find out how you can help shape Wood Green's future.

Nifty and over sixty!

Have you met our new health ambassadors who are championing health and fitness for the over-65s? Ros, John, Barry and Dot are Haringey residents who refuse to let retirement slow them down.

The health ambassadors all take part in regular physical activity for free at each of the borough’s main leisure centres. Our leisure centres at Tottenham Green, Park Road and Broadwater Farm provide free access to the gym and run exercise classes to help over 65s stay fit and healthy.

Joining is easy and it’s a great way to get out and meet new people. If you or someone you know is thinking of starting a new activity for spring, you can pack a punch at Box-Fit or if you’re after something more serene you can try the Pilates class. There are plenty of activities to suit everyone.

Read more about our health ambassadors on our website. For more information about free gym sessions, visit one of our Fusion leisure centres or see our website.

Climbing the walls in Tottenham Hale

Tottenham Hale scaled the heights this week with the opening of Stronghold, a new state of the art climbing centre based in a disused warehouse in Ashley Road.

Stronghold boasts the largest bouldering wall in London, a conditioning gym, yoga classes and café with pastries and cakes supplied by the fantastic Prestige Patisserie, who also have a stall on the nearby Holcombe Road Market.

All ages and abilities are welcome - find out more at: The Stronghold UK Facebook page.

All the fun of the WI Fair

There’s still time to attend the Women’s Institute (WI) Fair at Alexandra Palace.

Tomorrow (Saturday 1 April) is the last of four fantastic days of craft, cooking, creativity, shopping, learning and travel. More than 300 exhibitors have come together to celebrate WI and support many entrepreneurial women and organisations.

The Fair has four distinct areas: a Designer Makers Village; a Live Kitchen; a Craft Theatre; and a Travel and Lifestyle Theatre.

The day will be filled with demonstrations, hands-on activities, an extensive shopping experience and authors’ book signings in the Book Club feature with WHSmith.

A star attraction in the Travel and Outdoor Theatre on Saturday is Jan Leeming who made history when she became the first woman newsreader on TV. Jan will be amusing visitors with tales of her life, her work and her solo travel adventures.

Tickets are still available to purchase online or via the ticket hotline on 0844 581 4902.

Take a look below at some of the exciting events coming up, but check out our What's On calendar for a full list. Remember you can also submit your own event online.
