Backyard Homes - What's Next?
Thank you to everyone who submitted a letter of support or spoke at the Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) committee meeting about the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) ordinance last week. Because of your support and participation, we were successful in ensuring the city’s latest policy is inclusive of ADUs of all sizes—from tiny homes to the state mandate of 1200 sq. ft. —which will let ADUs become a viable housing option for Angelenos.
We applaud the leadership of Councilmembers José Huizar, Gilbert Cedillo, and Mitchell Englander. The ADU policy isn't set yet and we will need your support to stand our ground, so stay tuned for more updates!

Vision Zero on West Adams
We are proud to be spearheading a Vision Zero Outreach and Education Project on West Adams Boulevard between Hauser Boulevard and Hillcrest Drive. In partnership with Parents, Educators/Teachers & Students in Action (PESA), we are planning to use short-term installations over a one-mile stretch to highlight locations of traffic collisions that involved pedestrians/bicyclists. The community, especially local high school students, will be involved in outreach, installation, and the unveiling event.
Stay tuned for the community celebration which will be held on Friday, May 12th from 5-8 PM at Fais Do Do.

Supporting Great Streets Challenge Winners
We are pleased to be supporting the seven Great Streets Challenge winners as the economic development consultants.
The Great Streets Challenge, a program initiated by Mayor Eric Garcetti, awarded a total of two million dollars to community-driven initiatives to re-imagine Los Angeles’ iconic commercial corridors. The seven selected projects span from Panorama City to Watts, and from the Westside to Boyle Heights.
LA-Más will be supporting community partners to help small businesses transform their storefronts and public spaces to help attract new customers and create a unique pedestrian experience. For the challenge winners, we will be building pilot projects by the end of the year to demonstrate the potential for future programs or policy change. Stay tuned for community events in the next few months.

Go Ave 26 Community Walk
Our Go Ave 26 community walk was a great success! We received amazing feedback from participants from all three neighborhoods—Cypress Park, Lincoln Heights, and Elysian Valley. In order to continue the conversation, we have launched an ongoing community survey. Please help us make Avenue 26 pedestrian-friendly by answering and sharing our online survey in English and Spanish, available until June 30th.
The community findings report will be available next month, which will inform the short term designs we are currently working on in partnership with city, county, and state agencies. Stay tuned for a community unveiling at the end of August.

LA-Más 2016 Annual Report
With the support of the Durfee Foundation and the WHH Foundation, we created our first ever strategic plan. To start, we refined our mission to reflect our commitment to help lower income and under-served communities shape their future. Plus, we focused our blend of expertise on policy and architecture. ADUs at Urban Marketplace
Co-Executive Director of LA Más, Helen Leung, will be leading a round table discussion "Yes In My Back Yard! Designing and Financing Accessory Dwelling Units" at the Urban Land Institute Urban Marketplace on April 12. Along with Tom De Simone from Genesis LA, she will be discussing the design and financial aspects of building Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). Register for the event here.

River & Real Estate at StimULI Breakfast
Helen will also serve as a panelist at the Urban Land Institute's "StimULI Breakfast: Breaking New Ground on the LA River; The Future of the River and Real Estate" on Wednesday, April 26 at Gensler.
Panelists will elaborate on the LA River Master Plan’s vision and key milestones as well as hone in on projects that highlight the opportunities along the River from public open space to real estate developments reconnecting the public to the River. The panel pulls together leading experts on the Los Angeles River to share with us how to bring this vision of river revitalization to reality.

11th Annual Sustainability Summit
LA-Más is a partner organization for the Los Angeles Business Council’s (LABC) 11th Annual Sustainability Summit: “California Business for Cleaner, Greener Communities,” which will take place on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Getty Center.
This year’s summit will focus on how businesses in California are building cleaner, greener communities now and into the future. The LABC Sustainability Summit has become one of Los Angeles’ most influential forums on climate action by promoting valuable partnerships between public policymakers, clean technology innovators, and businesses who are leaders in sustainability.
