Lesson 1998: Tempted in Gethsemane
In Matt.26:39, “this cup” is a symbol of the cross. The cup is filled with the sins of the world. Even worse than the agony of crucifixion, Jesus was made sin for us.
When all sin was placed on Jesus, what He felt is unimaginable.
Jesus was tempted in Gethsemane, as in the wilderness.
Mark 14:38 Jesus said to Peter, James & John, “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
What would tempt the disciples? In Eden and Gethsemane, Satan was in the garden.
Adam failed in his garden, but Jesus didn’t.
As J. Vernon McGee put it, “The victory of Calvary was won in Gethsemane”.
The last time the world saw Jesus, His body was being carried from the cross to the tomb. John 14:19
The next time they see Him, He will appear in power & glory to judge. Phil.2:8-11; Rev.1:7
We will see Jesus because God is faithful.
1 John 3:2; Psa.145:13; 1 Cor.1:9,13:12; 2 Cor.1:20
How do we know we will go to heaven and see His glory?
Because of: the price He paid (1 Thes.5:9-10),
the promise He made (John 14:1-6),
and the prayer He prayed (John 17:24).
