Lesson 2011: Resurrection Evidence, Pt.4

Many “facts” we accept about early history rest on 1 ancient source. Acts 2:29-32, 13:29-37

When 2 or 3 written sources agree, the fact is considered proven “beyond a shadow of doubt”.

There are at least 7 ancient written sources for the empty tomb (Gospels, Acts, Peter, Paul).

There is evidence that the empty tomb story was written before 37 AD (before legends grew).

Evidence from Jewish historians (hostile to Christianity) admits that the tomb was empty.

All the proposed natural explanations for the empty tomb are unconvincing and improbable.

In Jerusalem, it would have been foolish to preach unless everyone knew the tomb was empty.

The Temple authorities could not counteract the preaching; they couldn’t find Jesus’ body.

They would have paid a fortune for information;  Judas proved that a traitor could be bought.

Instead they became so desperate to silence Christians that they resorted to persecution.
