The Movement aims to keep you up to date with all the work we are doing to ensure that people everywhere have equal access to the benefits of engineering. Quiz for change | Join us at The Battersea Barge
Want to test those snoozing brain cells? Join us for our Quiz for Change on Thursday 20 April 2017. Whether you are a hoarder of knowledge, a team name comedian or just looking for some evening fun, we promise you a friendly competition and a round at the bar for the winning team!
You can bring a team of up to eight or come on your own and we'll put teams together on the night. New Fundraising and Communications Assistant | Samantha Castles
We're delighted to welcome our newest team member, Samantha Castles, who joined us this month as our Fundraising and Communications Assistant. A new role for us, Samantha will be supporting us across our income generating activities and bringing our work to life in our communications. Samantha joins us from Lepra, bringing with her knowledge and experience of fundraising in a development context. We are delighted to have her join us!

Laughing all the way to the bank | Engineering Showoff
Following the success of December's Engineering Showoff, the team have kindly put on two more events in support of Engineers Without Borders UK. In total raising us more than £1,500 over three events.

Volunteer position | Help us evaluate the Engineering for People Design Challenge
We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to work with our academic partner who is leading an evaluation of our university education programme, the Engineering for People Design Challenge. This is a vital role that will help us to understand the difference our programme has made to over 23,000 students that have participated to date and improve the programme for the future. This position will offer great experience for someone interested in a career in academia or looking to develop their social research and evaluation skills. You can read more and apply here.

Volunteer position | We're on the hunt for expert reviewers
Are you interested in reviewing our student design proposals as part of the Engineering for People Design Challenge? If so, we need you! Each year every submitted student proposal needs to be marked by our volunteer reviewers so that we can identify the very best teams to go through to the Grand Finals. Each report should take no more than 45 minutes and we ask each reviewer to review at least 3 reports. We ask that only professionals apply to ensure that students are provided with necessary feedback on their proposals. You find out more and apply here.

Our 2017 student volunteers | Welcoming our newest recruits
Following the success in 2016 of our Global Engineer Fellowships we have recruited eight student volunteers to work with our partner organisations under the supervision of our professional engineer volunteers in 2017.
This Summer our Junior Fellows will be investigating solutions to corrosion issues for clean cookstoves in India, developing a rainwater harvesting system for remote communities in The Philippines, and mitigating flood risks in an informal settlement in Kenya. We welcome them to the team!

Sustainable technology in rural communities in Peru | Renewable energy and eco-sanitation
Sustainable technology is bringing engineering solutions to Playa Blanca, a rural seaside community in Peru. Our volunteer Stuart has been based at our partner Windaid for the past six months helping them develop and deliver renewable energy and eco-sanitation solutions and achieving some incredible results. Learn about innovative sustainable technologies in Mexico | Training course in 2017
Not enough experience to work on an overseas project or interested in pursuing a career in international development but unsure of where to start? The 'Sustainable Technologies in Action: Building Enduring Communities' course offers you a unique opportunity to learn how to solve real world problems through ecological solutions.
Discover the theory and implementation behind six sustainable technologies: rainwater harvesting, natural building techniques, solar power systems, bio-digesters, permaculture and water filtration in urban, peri-urban and rural communities in Mexico.
The course is appropriate for professionals and students. In addition to the course participants can also get hands-on experience of installing bio-digesters and clean water systems in undeserved communities in Mexico. You can learn more about the course in this short video.
Date: 20 July - 1 August 2017
Cost: $1,750 ($1,475 USD course and $275 USD basic lodging). Please note that other accommodation options are available.

It's submission time | Engineering for People Design Challenge 2016-17
We are nearly at the end of the final term of participation in the Engineering for People Design Challenge 2016 -2017. Over 4,400 students have taken part in our programme this year across 24 universities and soon it will be time for the best teams to be picked for the Grand Finals. We look forward to receiving the successful teams' ideas so that we can select the top teams to represent their universities in June and share the ideas with our partner EcoSwell in Lobitos, Peru.

Preparing for next year's challenge | Exploring Kibera
Since December, our Education team have been working with our partner Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI) on the context for the upcoming academic year's Engineering for People Design Challenge brief. That context is Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya.
As the largest informal settlement in one of the fastest growing African cities, Kibera presents an exciting opportunity for the engineers of tomorrow to get to grips with challenges that will be relevant to a future working in the emerging markets of the continent. Inspiring the next generation | EWB University of Bath
This month our member group, EWB University of Bath, took our Youth Outreach workshop, 'Water for Everyone Everywhere', to the award-winning science festival Bath Taps Science Fair. The Bath Taps Science Fair focuses on exciting and enthusing young children and families with science and engineering. EWB University of Bath have been involved with the festival for many years and on the day they had over 100 children and participate in the workshops! When asked for their highlights, the groups Outreach Coordinator Ana Johnson Portales said she "couldn't choose between hearing the children ask their parents if they could build a water filter in their garden or the adults asking questions about the impact of water engineering." Membership Update | Membership structure review
In light of our new strategy, Engineering Change: Our Strategy 2016-21, we are conducting a comprehensive review of our current membership structure. The outcome from the review will ensure that this important part of our organisation is able to deliver on the objectives set out in our strategy. As part of the process we would really appreciate your thoughts!
A Membership working group, chaired by one of our Trustees and supported by Bain & Company, have been working together to model a range of potential membership structures for the organisation. We have put together a proposal and now we want your feedback.
We have been hosting a series of consultation workshops and webinars and there is still time for you to get involved! You can join our Consultation Webinar, on Thursday 6th April 2017, or complete our online survey that will be available until Friday 7th April 2017.
