As some of you may know, I am on the Executive Committee of the Capital Classic.  Fellow DC Touchdown Club Executive Committee Member and close friend of mine, Tom Doyle, CEO of the Capital Classic and Hoop Culture, and his partner, Pete Deoudes, CFO of the Capital Classic and Hoop Culture, are bringing back this historic game to the Verizon Center on Saturday April 8, 2017. This is the first time the Capital Classic has been held at the Verizon Center since 2003 when LeBron James and Chris Paul played before a sellout crowd.

Established in 1974, the Capital Classic has been a beacon in the Washington, DC community, showcasing some of the nation’s top high school basketball talent, as well as, raising monies for local area charities. The game has become a steppingstone for many college All-Americans, NBA All-Stars and Pro Basketball Hall of Fame recipients, such as Moses Malone, Magic Johnson, Ralph Sampson, Dominique Wilkins, Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Grant Hill, Jason Kidd, Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Klay Thompson. Most importantly, the 2017 Capital Classic is being held for the benefit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington. The net proceeds from the game will be donated to the BGCGW.

The DC Touchdown Club presented by Capital Bank N.A. fifth annual 3M Awards Dinner, will honor Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly and broadcaster Johnny Holliday, on Thursday, April 13, in Bethesda, Md. The dinner also will honor the region’s top high school and college players and coaches, including James Madison University Coach Mike Houston, who led the Dukes to the Football Championship Subdivision national championship this past season, and United States Naval Academy record-setting quarterback Will Worth. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Patriot Point, the DC Bowl Committee's retreat for recovering service members.

“What an amazing lineup of award winners,” DC Touchdown Club Executive Director Steve Beck said. “We are honored to be joined by so many people who have accomplished great things on and off the field. It is exciting to think about what Jim Kelly achieved during his playing career and since, while Johnny Holliday is one of the most recognizable voices and faces in the Washington area.”

Tables and a limited number of individual tickets can be purchased at dctouchdownclub.com/awards-dinner. For more information, please contact Steve Beck at 301-370-5454 or sbeck@militarybowl.org.
