House Judiciary passes marijuana legalization bill, floor debate TOMORROW
By a 8-3 vote, the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday passed H.170, legislation that would legalize possession of an ounce of marijuana and the growing of two mature plants and six immature plants. The legislation is expected to be debated on the floor of the House this week.
Among the reasons AAPVT is opposed to the legalization of marijuana are the dangerous physical and mental effects of the drug, the danger legalization would create on Vermont’s roads and highways, “normalizing” marijuana use, and the fact that previous decriminalization efforts have already accomplished the worthy goal of ending the social injustices that were often present with past marijuana law enforcement.
The AAPVT encourages you to let your state representative know your position on the legalization of marijuana. Click here for their contact information.

AAPVT launches “In the Statehouse” section on website
In an effort to help keep Vermont’s pediatricians up-to-date on issues of importance to them being debated but the Vermont General Assembly, the AAPVT has launched a new section on its website.
“AAPVT in the Statehouse” highlights the major public policy issues that AAPVT’s staff and team of volunteers are focusing on during the legislative. For each issue, members will find a summary of the legislation and link to its text, an explanation of the AAPVT’s position, and news and updates, including testimony provided by the AAPVT.
Issues currently highlight on the web page are the legalization of marijuana, Tobacco 21, proposed cuts to Medicaid, and a bill that would allow licensed pharmacists to administer immunizations to individuals seven years of age or older.
