Although snow is still on the ground in Upstate New York, the sky at sunset is all fire these days, reflected in the Hudson River.

ATMann’s March Aries New Moon Astrology Newsletter

Listen to a recording of this newsletter

The Aries New Moon occurs on Monday, 27 March at 10:59 PM EDT. What is enticing about this lunation is that it is conjunct retrograde Venus, also in Aries. Since the Aries New Moon typically shows a need for us to re-imagine or again identify our being in new ways, the introduction of Venus also requires a revaluation of our central goals, especially as they are affected by or affect our creativity. This is even more complicated, since it also refers to our relationships, whether familial, loving, or professional, and indicates how we value others as well as, or in a reflection of our own, personal values. When Venus retrogrades in front of the Sun, we search our past behavior to discover the source of the core qualities that are guiding us in the present, if indeed we feel guided at all. And because all this happens in the first fire sign of the zodiac, it means that the only tangible solution is enflamed and means that our solution might entail torching or burning through discordant patterns in our life.

What complicates this scenario is that Venus will retrograde back into Pisces on 3 April and will keep going until 15 April, and it will take until the end of April to return back into Aries. This creates a strange situation where our forward motion halts suddenly, and returns to a previous state, like a lifetime version of the Apple backup program, Time Machine. We dial back to our past and on all kinds of psychic levels we might feel the need to retrieve memories that we thought we had left behind. Since Venus goes almost all the way back to a conjunction with the story-teller of wounds Chiron, still in Pisces, it also could mean that we touch on painful subjects in this journey within. Venus being exalted in Pisces also signifies that we learn to revalue our past sacrifices and take them to heart in a different way, even possibly editing our story so that it becomes a healing dynamic of great value instead of a weight we must bear.

Adding to the complication of Venus’ forty-day retro journey back and forth, is the beginning of Mercury’s retrograde cycle, which begins on 10 April, just a day before the Libra Full Moon. You can imagine how this will play out when our values and ideas suddenly coincide, when how we think about ourselves comes into a closer connection to how we feel. Decision-making couldn’t be more delicate than at such a time, so we may need more information to make significant choices that arise now. Maybe we fall in love with our true self again, or re-kindle the flames of a fire we thought was out, but obviously wasn’t, this because Mercury will have entered the more stable Taurus, but will also drift back into Aries past Uranus. Urgent action and fast talking will be the order of the day during April, and it could feel almost as though April Fool’s Day will continue for the entire month. Ebertin calls such times our “emotionally accented intellect,” which is a way of saying that our abstract ideas will be profoundly affected by our values, and that love might even tinge our deeper selves, because the only ideas that will resonate with us will be those that evoke emotional responses, and the strength of those responses will determine our path forward.

Venus is also inconjunct (five signs away from) the North Node, showing that family is very important, but might be frustrating now due to naïve criticism or common fears in a time when our true critical mind is necessary to distinguish what is real versus what is intended to confuse us. We must regain our senses to reestablish sanity in a crazy time and provide stability to those we love.

With Mercury currently conjunct the active, individualistic Uranus in Aries, there is no lack of brilliant ideas and opportunities available to us, but the decisions that arise from them must follow on the above. This time brings accurate and perceptive thoughts that issue from rhythmic and periodic valuations, like those of astrology, as we become aware that such cycles affect us all in profound ways. If we can utilize or harness these times of good perception by meditating or going inward, all the better for us and our world. Insight is keen, especially when it forces us to look at ourselves in creative ways.

The Mercury/Uranus conjunction is in the sixth house of work and decisiveness, so as they are mutually opposed by the beneficent and optimistic, but retrograde Jupiter in the equilibrating sign Libra and trined in fire signs by the restrictive and entrapping Saturn in Sagittarius, we are likely to be in a contradictory state of not knowing whether to expand or contract, to be positive regarding our future, or protective of our resources. The urge to act is complex now, and so we might feel like moving ahead one moment and back in others. This is a strange state, but it is important to heed the contradictions as a part of us wants to disappear in foreign paradises and another part is afraid to act here and now. Do we open up or close down? This is a funny time in all kinds of ways, and parallels the scorn heaped on liberal thinking in this time, versus the critical need to move ahead of our hidebound thinking of the past.

The public and powerful Pluto is still in Capricorn, showing that some kind of order does really underlie the vagaries of the time, and it also shows that the Uranus/Pluto conjunction from the mid-1960s, which affected an entire generation, is still in the process of profoundly changing the ground rules as entire countries swing to the right, toward populist equations that dismantle existing structures, however in this case taking down positive forces as well as negative ones. It is as though the planetary immune system, with which Pluto is associated, is rebelling against us and sending signals that the health of Gaia remains as the most critical issue of all, something which those in power seem to ignore.

The energetic red planet Mars remains in the static Taurus, bringing a sense of reality to world events and forcing us to take a deep breath, wait for the right moment, yet is sextile to the sensitive and imagistic Neptune, which shows us that we live in a toxic time when eating real organic food and protecting ourselves from toxicity within and without is a priority, particularly when the environmental organizations are fighting for relevance, and big pharma is so dominant in spreading their diabolical message that medication is moving far from the natural, which we must regain as soon as possible. Mars/Neptune is addictive in subtle ways, most of all in our imagination and ability to express ourselves.

On the weekend, I gave a talk about “Who Initiated Your Conception” to the OPA (Organization of Professional Astrologers) community and it is available on YouTube. If you are curious about the imagery I use to describe my astrological ideas, it would be good starting point as I used lots of my graphics to illustrate these Life Time ideas. OPA has a great outreach worldwide, and they offer other leaning options. Also, I remind you that my book “A New Vision of Astrology” is still available and in print by Simon & Schuster and you can order it here. I would also like to announce that I will be giving a one-day workshop at The Golden Drum in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on 15 April on “Healing and Life Time Astrology,” and it will be open to anyone who wants to come. Check with Golden Drum for the cost and other details as they will be available shortly.

I am available for Life Time and one-year update readings and will even offer a $25 rebate on them for the month of April. I also do Mandala Astrological Tarot readings, counseling sessions and one hour teaching sessions in case you want to learn about my astrology system. Please be in touch,

All the best,
Tad
