Class News

Sea Horse

Good Afternoon and welcome to week 10!!!
Hope everyone had a long wonderful weekend.
Last week was a hectic week, quite a number of the children in our class were sick with colds, coughs and measles as well as me being sick too.
I pray this week all our beautiful Seahorses will be well and rested for the week ahead.
I’m sure dad’s campout was exciting for all who joined in on the camp.
Last week I tried to put more input into the A+ approach, that Anya has taught us. We are playing more fun games in our morning ring with numbers and singing.
The kids are certainly enjoying the mornings more now and it sets off a good tone for our day.
I have also used the phrase : "adapt adopt and create" from A+ .
By using this in my classroom it has helped me to think in a bigger spectrum towards teaching the kids.
I have created number and matching games with tins, bottle tops, cardboard and paper.
This simple game has excited all the kids in the classroom as it is colourful and just simple day to day items that are used to create games. It’s a different way of teaching the children the same curriculum just with different  recycled materials that could even be made at home with your child.
These games have been fun to play and the children are even asking me to take the games out as they really enjoying them.
This week will be a short and simple week. Wednesday will be show and tell please bring any items belonging to your pet.
Kind regards
Aneeka and Monica

EQ : Consolidation and how have you learned to make friends
General:  My family and Easter
Maths:  Revision of shapes and number. Left and right
Language: Letter N n nut, nurse etc
Thank you for attending the parent interviews. I appreciate you organising your day to meet with me to discuss your child's report. I find the time we spend together talking about your child most helpful and at times it gives me a better understanding of your child.
This week we are discussing our family. We will compare the similarities and differences in the various families in our class. I will link it to maths by making a graph for the amount of people in each family. It’s a good theme to link to EQ as we'll discuss the roles different family members have and how they as young children can help at home.  Thank you for sending family and baby photos to school.
Over the next two weeks we'll be revising all the maths concepts we have learned this term. The children confuse left and right so please try and make them aware of it at home. Remember to make them aware of number in the environment and let them look for numbers and prices when you are shopping, this will keep them busy.
Language Letter ‘N’ ‘n’: The children who are bringing objects for the table are really showing an interest in the Letterland programme and in learning the letter.  They enjoy comparing the different object brought and we match objects that are the same. We then count how many objects are the same and link the concept of more and less to it. I urge all of you to start helping your child to do their "homework" and bring things for the table.
On Fridays we do movement lessons in the back garden. I set out 5 "stations"/ activities for the children to work at and they rotate from one activity to another.  I am so proud of how quickly the class has learned to work independently in groups.  There is a leader in charge and there are times that they clash and argue but I let them try and solve the problem and only get involved when they are unable to resolve it or ask for help.
Please join our closed Facebook page because I try and post a few photos every week.
It’s hard to believe that the term is almost over and our last fun thing for this term is the Easter raffle. School closes on Friday 31 March and re-opens on Tuesday 18 April. There will be after care during the holidays from 7 am to 6 pm.
Have a good week

Number Concepts:  Introducing number 4, Recognising 1 to 4, Introduce the concept of more
Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend and had fun with your children.  To all those who attended the Dad's Campout on Friday night, I hope you had a blast.  You had the perfect weather for a lovely evening.  Thank you to all those mums and grannies who helped with our beach outing last Monday.  Your continuous support is much appreciated.
We continue to discuss "Calming down/helping someone to calm down" along with "The beach and sea creatures" this week.  Thank you to all those parents who have encouraged your children to bring books and items to do with our theme.  I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the books at story time.  Continue to encourage your child when angry and frustrated to try different ways to calm down.  We have discussed, closing our eyes and counting to 10 or closing our eyes and thinking of something nice or fun.  We have also discussed breathing deeply a couple of times.  When they are angry at home, encourage this as it will become a norm instead of lashing out or saying something unkind to their friends.
We continue to focus on Language skills this week.  Continue to encourage your child to make up stories using items from their bedroom, puppets or just by looking at the pictures in a book and making up their own story.  Tell them short stories and ask them questions about the story to see if they were listening.  Give them little tasks to do via an instruction and see if they can complete them.
Please continue to play little number games with your children.  This week I played a game using a dice and they had to show me using their fingers, how many dots were showing on the dice.  Memory games or matching games using number cards 1 to 4.  This week I introduced the game "Go Fish" and they loved it.  I have also played dominoes with them.  Playing games improves concentration, listening skills, taking turns, sharing which are all vital skills to have.
Thank you to all those mums and dads who came to chat with me about your child's progress.  I thoroughly enjoyed our time spent together.
PLEASE CAN EACH CHILD BRING IN ONE HARDBOILED EGG IN ITS SHELL BY TUESDAY 28 MARCH FOR AN EASTER EGG DYEING ACTIVITY.  PLEASE PUT A REMINDER ON YOUR PHONE FOR THE NIGHT BEFORE.  THE SHELL NEEDS TO BE UNBROKEN OTHERWISE IT IS DIFFICULT FOR THE CHILDREN TO DRAW ON THE EGG.  DO NOT BRING EXTRA EGGS FOR OTHERS, OTHERWISE I GET STUCK WITH TOO MANY EGGS.  THANK YOU!!!
Dates to Diarise:
27 - 31 March - Easter Raffle
31 March - Last day of term (Easter Dress up)

FACEBOOK
We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.
