SUBJECT LINE: From Your District - Arts for All NC
Dear ____________,
I'm writing to ask you to support Arts North Carolina's funding recommendation of a $5,150,000 expansion for Grassroots Arts Programs, State Arts Resources, Veterans Arts Programs, and SmART towns and cities in our state.
For every $1 of state investment, NC Arts Council grantees leverage, on average, an additional $17 in other sources of revenue. I know an expansion to these programs will pay off many times over in invigorating our communities economies and sense of pride in place.
Grassroots Arts Programs ($3,650,000 expansion request) distribute funds to all 100 counties. Currently, each county receives a base amount of $6,000. This expansion would increase that base amount to $30,000--providing crucial support to the 34 rural counties who currently cannot afford paid staff in the arts.
Additionally, I'd like to see our State Arts Resources (53 organizations with demonstrated commitments to artistic excellence) expand their reach through touring; I'd like to see the unique capacity of the arts helping our veterans through special programs; and I'd like to see more SmART towns and cities revitalizing their downtown areas with the help of the arts. All of these things are possible through the proposed expansion.

You might notice a lot of arts people in the halls of the Legislative Building today/Wednesday; unfortunately, I am unable to be with them, so I hope this email can take the place of an in-person visit.
