Winnetka Congregational Church will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on the front lawn on Sunday, April 16th, following the 9 A.M.  and 11 A.M. worship services, weather permitting. All children are welcome to participate. Please bring your own basket. (If you don’t have a basket, not to worry, we have cute little Easter bags for your child’s convenience.)

Each egg is hand-stuffed with several carefully selected gifts for the children; as such, children should limit their gathering to no more than three eggs. Remember, don’t start searching until everyone has gathered!
TONIGHT
As our congregation seeks to grow more closely “together”—with God, within our congregation, and with our sisters and brothers of the world—interfaith understanding and interfaith relations continue to play an integral part. In that spirit, we are excited to announce that Winnetka Congregational Church will host author and speaker Mustafa Akyol this evening at 7:00 in the Winnetka Congregational Church sanctuary. Mr. Akyol will speak first and then engage the audience’s questions.

Mustafa Akyol is a regular columnist for The New York Times: International Edition and a speaker followed by the moderate Muslim community. Mr. Akyol is the author of "Islam Without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty", which was long-listed for the 2012 Lionel Gelber prize, a literary award for the world's best non-fiction book in English. Recently, Mr. Akyol published "The Islamic Jesus: How the King of the Jews Became a Prophet of the Muslims". When Reza Aslan's bestseller "Zealot" came out in 2013 (Reza Aslan was our guest author/speaker in 2013), there was criticism that Mr. Alsan had not addressed his Muslim faith while writing the origin story of Christianity. In fact, Ross Douthat of The New York Times wrote that "if Aslan had actually written in defense of the Islamic view of Jesus, that would have been something provocative and new." Mustafa Akyol's "The Islamic Jesus" is that book.

Mr. Akyol’s TEDx Warwick talk, entitled Faith vs Tradition in Islam, is available here.

Special thanks to our Adult Enrichment Co-Leader, Pete McNerney, who has made Mr. Akyol’s visit possible.

Honor Pastor William Mueller Upon His Retirement!

Contribute to Bill's "Purse." It is part of our tradition to offer our ministers the gift of a “purse” – a collection of donations from members of the congregation as but one expression of our deep gratitude. Bill and Judi plan to move to North Carolina, and we know this “purse” will go a long way in helping them to settle into their new home.

Add a Page to Pastor Bill's Memory Book. A page on which you can share memories, stories, photos, drawings with Bill and Judi is in the red basket in the neonarthex. Record your memory right there, or take your page home and return it by April 23.

Come to Pastor Bill's Farewell Dinner on Saturday evening, April 29. Please use the form below to make contributions to the "Purse" and/or make payment for the Farewell Dinner on April 29.

Attend Pastor Bill’s last WCC Church Service on April 30 and join us afterwards for a Fellowship Reception.

Before the Flood
Wednesday, April 19  |  7 P.M.

Celebrate Earth Day by joining the WCC Green Team for its second screening of Before the Flood, a documentary that follows Leonardo DiCaprio as he travels the world witnessing climate change and how it is changing our world and what communities and individuals can do in response.

The movie will be screened at 7 P.M. on Wednesday, April 19 and runs for approximately 90 minutes. This is the Wednesday between Easter and Earth Day, to highlight how this issue implicates the intersection of faith and science.

Tip for the week:

Did you know last Wednesday, March 22, was World Water Day? Neither did we! Instead of wasting wastewater (in addition to polluting the environment and losing valuable nutrients and other recoverable materials) from our homes, cities, industry, and agriculture, we need to reduce and reuse it. In our homes, we need to reuse greywater on our gardens and plots. In our cities, we need to treat and reuse wastewater for green spaces. In industry and agriculture, we need to treat and recycle discharge for things like cooling systems and irrigation. By managing this valuable resource, we will make the water cycle work better for every living thing. Find out more at WorldWaterDay.org.

We continue our special 2-week Sunday Morning Lenten series! Sunday, April 9 | 9 A.M.

In our congregation’s FOCUS on Interfaith this program year, we will, by our attendance and participation, welcome Rabbi Bruce Elder of Congregation Hakafa which shares our building on Jewish High Holidays. He will discuss the topics of Judaism and Passover, the latter which shares the Christian Holy Week.

Join us in the Centennial Room at 8:45 A.M. for Refreshments & Fellowship, followed by Program & Conversation at 9:00.

Bicycle Drive Planned

Winnetka Boy Scout Troop 18 will hold a used bicycle drive from 9:00 to 3:00 on Saturday, April 22, in the parking lot of The Grand grocery store in Winnetka.

Christopher Hulbert is working with the Working Bikes charity to collect and deliver bikes to the group’s headquarters in Chicago. He will supervise sorting the bikes and preparing them for distribution to underprivileged as part of his Eagle Scout project. Many of the bikes go to South America, where people depend on bikes as their primary mode of transportation.

The bike donations are tax deductible. For more information, send an e-mail to Hulbert at CHulbertTroop18EagleProject@gmail.com. Also let him know if you have a bike but cannot drop it off. The Troop will pick up bikes from donors upon request.
Spring Cleaning at WCC:

Just as we do in our own homes, WCC is preparing for a long-overdue "Spring Cleaning" in early June. As part of this process, we will be cleaning out some of the storage areas that have accumulated items that may no longer be used/needed. Please make certain that if your committee/ministry group uses items stored on Church Property, that they are clearly labeled and organized. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this effort or would like to volunteer to help, please contact Christy Shellenbarger or Lloyd Culbertson.
In response to God's graciousness as lived out in the mission and ministry of Winnetka Congregational Church, I/we offer this pledge to financially support the facilities, staff, and outreach. Click to Pledge.

If you are interested in serving dinner at A Just Harvest the first Monday of any month, please contact Laurie Morse at 847-835-4123.
Nominations for Wilfred Helms award are being accepted. The award honors members for their outstanding service to WCC over the past year. Members are selected by Council during the April council meeting. If you have a candidate please contact any council member or Christy Shellenbarger (emial) or at 847-832-1318.
Are you interested in membership at WCC? Would you like to know more about the church, its history and role in the community?
If you have questions about membership or are interested in learning more, please contact: Carrie Alt or Brad McLane.
The New Member Orientations is scheduled for May 7th.
