Welcome to the Resonate Testing March/April E-Newsletter.
Out and About
As the trade show season rapidly approaches we are finalising plans for attendance and exhibiting at a number of new events for us, kicking off with the Hamburg Aircraft Interiors Expo this week. With a broader testing capability in operation we continue to push into new markets, such as Automotive, Rail transport and Energy, as well as our traditional Aerospace sector. Further details of where we’ll be below.
Our range of Propulsion Fire test clients continues to grow and we are being challenged with ever more complex conditions to simulate around fire testing; Tom Mallon explains more. And with our new Thermal test capabilities up and running we have completed some simulation testing for our clients at Camlin Technologies who are meeting standards for their product in extreme market environments.
Check out the video of our recent Shake, Rattle & Roll competition which has been produced by CCEA. The students from Our Lady’s are preparing to head off on their prize trip to visit UK Space at Harwell where a great program has been lined up. We’ve also arranged for them to visit our friends at Surrey Satellite Technologies. Our thanks to CCEA, UK Space and SSTL for their support.
Kind Regards
Michael Thompson, General Manager
Showtime!
Over the last year we've made a lot of new contacts and we're hoping to meet many more as we embark on the 2017 Exhibition season. Please do say 'hello' if you come across us at any of the following trade shows:
|
Aircraft Interiors Expo
Hamburg, Germany
4-6 April 2017 |
Ask for Michael Thompson or Alan Markwell at the Invest Northern Ireland or ADS stand – they’ll point you in our direction. |
|
Aero Engine Forum
Birmingham, UK
18-20 April 2017 |
Alan Markwell will be representing Resonate Testing at the MAA Annual Conference on Tuesday, 18 April 2017. Michael Thompson will join Alan to host B2B Meetings on the Invest Northern Ireland stand on the 19th and 20th – arrange to meet us there. |
|
The Commercial Vehicle Show
NEC Birmingham, UK
25-27 April 2017 |
We’ll be visitors at The Commercial Vehicle Show so if you’re attending or exhibiting let us know in advance and we’ll find you. |
|
Railtex
NEC Birmingham, UK
9-11 May 2017 |
Again, we’ll be visitors so will be hoping to visit as many stands as possible and talk to as many people as we can. |
|
Paris Air Show
Paris, Le Bourget
19-25 June 2017 |
This is the first year we’ve exhibited at the Paris Air Show. Come and see our Powerplant Fire Testing Burner on display at our stand – part of the Invest Northern Ireland group exhibit. |
Under Pressure
Recent experience once more demonstrated that one test is worth a thousand opinions….
Resonate Testing Ltd has demonstrated further capability with our recent series of aerospace propulsion system grade fire testing which required two independent air systems both transitioning at 5 minutes. This comes hot on the heels of the application of high and low air flow with loading applied.
Clients are already benefiting from our capability to vibration survey the UUTs over a number of locations, and help make the decision on the appropriate input levels.
The Customer QTP called for an angled burner and the Unit Under Test (UUT) subjected to two independent air circuits running simultaneously: one high positive pressure, high speed: with the other low pressure (negative pressure), low airspeed. Both transitioned at 5 minutes to reflect engine shut down conditions. Additionally we have navigated the increasingly complex data monitoring and acquisition requirements essential for documenting and reporting the test.
Attention now turns to fluid system rigs (Jet A1, Skydrol and further Sae No 20 oil fluid rigs), running under vibration and external load.
Camlin Technologies Thermal Extremes Testing
Our clients at Camlin Technologies, specialists in the Energy Market, have been developing one of their products for use in an extreme temperature environment. With a customer requirement to meet a -45C operating standard, we were able to mount the unit in our Thermatron Chamber and freeze it overnight using liquid nitrogen to hold temperature. The engineers from Camlin then ran through re-start procedures to bring the unit through to operation. The test was repeated a number of times while the Camlin team tried different types of insulation for the unit to assess effectiveness.
Ahti Kansanaho, Applied Engineering Manager at Camlin commented:
“I have used Resonate Testing previously and I had very positive experience. I was able to get the tests done with short notice and the engineers / technicians seemed to have a good understanding of standards and followed the processes rigorously. I will definitely consider Resonate Testing Ltd again in the future.”
Camlin have previously used our vibration facilities to simulate the mounting of their units on electricity networks, to assess operational performance.
This type of testing allows manufacturers to gain confidence as they send product to the field, and to provide data to their customers as part of the sales process.

Shake, Rattle & Roll - Watch this Space
As the winning team from Our Lady's Grammar School, Newry prepare for their trip to the UK Space Agency, Harwell, we hope the video produced by CCEA will inspire other budding engineers / STEM students to enter the Shake, Rattle & Roll Competition in the future. Click here to view.
