We are hard at work performing the final pruning of last year's shoot growth that winters over and turns “woody.” With over 10,000 vines each vine grows about 18 shoots that we need to hand prune. Therefore, our vineyard team makes over 180,000 cuts...a labor of love! Then we need to decide which of the previous year’s shoot will become this year’s cordon- or growth arm. So it is a very detailed task that requires patience and skill.
The vines had a very mild winter and are starting to wake up. I suspect by mid-April we will see some budding of the first shoots and by August the shoots will grow to over eight feet long and hopefully hanging some of the most glorious fruit on the East Coast!
It really is something to behold every year. Let's keep our fingers crossed for another great JOLO growing season here in our microclimate in the valley of the Pilot Mountain and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Still, busy, busy, busy! We are bottling our 2016 Pilot Fog Saturday April 8th! Thank goodness. None of us could take another day of waiting for another sip of this Cult JOLO Wine.
This Cynthiana wine is very similar to last years. Big, bold, luxurious, with a harmonious balance of fruit, acid, tannin and alcohol.
The Cynthiana has been aging in 100% brand new American Oak barrels since late September 2016. It has gorgeous, deep aromatics of berry preserve, cola, mocha, and spice. Super velvety and full-bodied. This elegant wine will age gracefully as it is a powerhouse right now!
