Dear Sponsor,
Ali Jaa
Big changes for our Ali Jaa. Ali decided in 2015 to leave BeHoCa voluntarily. After everything that happened with him this hurt us a lot. But to push someone who doesn’t want to stay was too much to handle for us, so we accepted his decision. But Ali wasn’t able to let us go completely. He visited us regularly and would then stay for a few weeks. In December Ali came back and celebrated Christmas with us. He also indicated that he had made a decision, he wanted to go back to school. We were delighted. We looked into his capabilities and since January Ali is going to school. He is currently following a two-year course for car mechanic. With a big smile he told us that he has been lying under a car. It's is not easy for him and his English is a problem, but he is going for it.
In March he had surgery on his arm. This during a medical camp of the "Lions Club of Mombasa Bahari". His arm should now, with a lot of physiotherapy, not interfere in his movements anymore. He's his old self again, cheerful and friendly! It has been a long and difficult road. But he is back! #happymoments
Ali M
Unfortunately, our other Ali decided that he was not ready for a structured life, so we had to say goodbye to him after he decided to leave. We tentatively accepted his decision. He caused too much turbulence in the group and ran away several times, but he always made sure that one of his brothers of BeHoCa accompanied him. Now that Ali is gone, the other boys and therefor the whole group is settling down again. What makes it difficult is that Ali is heavily addicted to sniffing glue.
First he must start to see that a life on the streets is tough. Hopefully the upcoming rain season will help him realize this.
School
The other new boys are doing great! Jack is number one in his class and we'll probably let him skip a grade. However, he doesn’t like that because all the girls in his class adore him. The womanizer ;-)
Ibrahim and Salim are also doing very well. At first they had some issues with the new structure, homework, washing, showering and still wanted to play. But they have found their rhythm and enjoy going to school.
The other boys are also doing amazing! Yusuf and Brian are having a bit of a hard time now, because they are in grade 7 and it is more demanding. They are preparing themselves for the final exams of grade 8. Of course we help them as much as possible, and what we don’t know, Google knows.
Thanks for the Foundation "Hands in Hands for Melissa"
We want to thank the foundation "Hands in Hands for Melissa"
"Hands in hands for Melissa" has made a great donation again of € 6,000.00! How awesome is that!? Previously it was called Hands in hands for Mzingisischool SA. They have been supporting a school there for years. This project was finished and they were looking for another project. Thanks to this donation we are getting closer to owning our own property. We are so grateful to all members for this wonderful donation! On behalf of all the boys we give you a big hug and a big ASANTE SANA. Thank you!! Really great that you show this commitment to our boys!
Volunteers / interns
We have recently said goodbye to Auntie Femke and Auntie Tessa, even Auntie Rianne is almost leaving us. Demanding at times, lots of fun and educational, we thank you immensely for your help and commitment. Good luck with everything you do in the Netherlands, school, internship and work! Asante Sana, Karibu Rafiki!
You will be in our hearts!

Did you know that...
  • Jack for the first time in his life celebrated his birthday. He smiled from ear to ear and was so thankful for his cake. He even kept a piece for his best friend at school
  • Almost half of the BeHoCa boys have joined the scouting
  • Tony and Mombasa are doing taekwondo
  • Dennis chose March 6 as his birthday
  • Fedde was born. Dear parents and brothers of Fedde, congratulations with his birth. Thank you so much for donating Fedde’s gifts to BeHoCa. Good luck!
  • We had a super day out sponsored by the Round Table Mombasa 3. A day of carting with some extra pocket money! They have really enjoyed it! Thanks for that!
