Dear Farm Friends,
It’s interesting how quickly perspectives can change. Once upon a time, five years ago, I would’ve thought this spring was more or less what I could expect. Then we had five years of drier and warmer weather, and so we began to adjust our expectations (and farm plans!) to reflect that new “normal.” Remember all my complaints about not enough water? Now we’re struggling with what feels like an unrelenting barrage of wet and cold weather. It’s been the wettest winter on record. The fields are muddy and hard to plant. And we’ve got a group of excited farmers here that want to get things done! Yay for spring and all the new adventures it brings.
Happily, this week our new crop of 6 farm interns arrived, so the Mountain Bounty anthill is starting to really swarm. We are taking good advantage of the short windows of dry weather to plant like mad before the next rains. Some of the crops we are planting this week: broccoli, lettuce, scallions, Napa cabbage, cauliflower, mizuna, radishes, beets, carrots, spinach, onions, parsley, spinach, zucchini, and potatoes.

Farm Tour
Friday May 12, 4:00pm
Please join us for a tour of our early summer fields! Bring the kids to see the farm transitioning into the full swing of summer production.
Meet at our main fields on Birchville Road at 4:00pm. Bring water, sturdy shoes and a picnic if you want to stay and eat an early dinner under the big oak tree.
Western Nevada County summer pickups change to TUESDAYS!

Grass Valley, Nevada City, Penn Valley, and San Juan Ridge
