Recent highlights from Skillnets

In this issue of Skillnets News I am delighted to share with you some highlights of Skillnets’ activity in the first quarter of the year. You will hear examples of how our networks are driving programmes and events that support the growth of firms, through collaboration, innovation and expert industry knowledge.
 
With the Irish economy now in a growth phase an increasing number of businesses are looking to expand. However, scaling a business is usually predicated on a supply of the necessary skills and talent. Our Open Calls over the last two years have resulted in the establishment of 15 new training networks, indicating the growing demand among businesses for relevant and innovative solutions to address skills shortages in the workplace. We were also delighted to recently celebrate the launch of four new networks established to address the emerging skills needs in the medtech, freight and logistics, design and hospitality sectors. We were joined at the event by Minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton T.D. who made a compelling case for the expansion of workforce development...

In This Edition

New Networks in Medtech, Design, Hospitality and Logistics Sectors

Skillnets hosted an interesting panel discussion on workforce development whilst launching four new Skillnets learning networks in the medtech, design, hospitality, and freight and logistics sectors. Skillnets exists in the context of national policy and therefore all our activities are aligned to national policy, particularly in relation to the Action Plan for Education and the National Skills Strategy. Each of the four new sectors launched feature prominently in Government strategies and indeed three of the sectors were the subject of recent reports undertaken by the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN), with a report on the design sector pending...

Skillnets Programme Management Office

Skillnets has established a Programme Management Office (PMO) to lead and drive the delivery of the enabling plans of the Skillnets Statement of Strategy 2016-2019. This is in line with a commitment given in the Government’s Action Plan for Education 2017. The purpose of the PMO is the demonstrable, successful implementation of the Statement of Strategy.  The PMO will also have an oversight role on key projects within the company to ensure their success.  The purpose of the PMO is to lead and drive the implementation of the work, working alongside colleagues and external stakeholders where appropriate, especially networks...
