Habitat Happenings - April 2017

From the Executive Director: Meeting Local Housing Needs

Our 14th house is well underway! Despite serious weather challenges, we are making tremendous progress. Our Project Manager, Jason Welch, is looking for men and women that have construction experience or a strong desire to learn to help on the build site.  We are also looking for a partner family and encourage people to apply. If you are interested, please call Kristal Karash at 845-340-0907 X105. The need for affordable housing is great and everyone can do something to help make the dream of home ownership possible for another local family. Donations are always accepted. Many thanks for your support!

Who Volunteers?

We are often asked, “Who volunteers at Ulster Habitat?” It’s a great question and one that we are privileged to answer.

Our volunteer community is amazingly diverse and talented. Union members, retirees, restaurant owners, IBMers, veterans, ministers and judges all grace our hallways. The group is impressive, intelligent and accomplished in so many varied fields.

Plus, of course, basic and advanced home-building skills.

Every day we welcome an experienced cadre with distinct skills and backgrounds in appliance repair, merchandising, art appraisal, education and civic leadership.

Groups from local high schools and colleges, local businesses, various county organizations donate their time and dedication to us. We have an after-hours bike team that repairs each and every bicycle that is donated, a green thumb team that tends to and creates potted art for us to sell and local social services that clean our ReStore.
Thank you to Cheese Louise for assorted meat and cheese platters enjoyed by our staff and volunteers.
Donations are processed through Network for Good.

Who? (continued)

Recently, we joined with Arts Mid-Hudson to showcase local artists in a rotating, pop-up gallery.

Volunteers are the heart of Ulster Habitat. We could not do what we do without them. We collaborate to advance our shared vision to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. We believe that everyone should have a decent and affordable place to live and that through shelter, we can empower!

Our options are numerous, our hours are flexible and our environment is welcoming.  Be part of the solution! If this sounds interesting to you contact Lori and Andrea in the Volunteer Office at 845-340-0907 X106. We look forward to welcoming you to our volunteer community soon.
