Important information about your BRP:
Keep your BRP safe
- Your BRP is your visa – it is proof of your right to stay, study and work in the UK.
- Make copies of your BRP (front and back) and keep those copies and your card in a safe place.
- You do not need to carry your BRP in your purse/wallet - if you lose it you will need to apply and pay for a new one. Only carry it when you need to show it (e.g. when registering as a student, opening a bank account, registering with the police or registering with a doctor).
- Remember - you must carry your BRP when travelling in and out of the UK.
- Make a note of your visa expiry date. If you need to apply for a new visa you will need to do this before your current visa expires.
Have you lost or had your BRP stolen?
- If you have lost your BRP then we recommend you spend 2 weeks looking for it.
- Most BRP’s that are reported lost are found within this 2 week period.
- If you still cannot find your BRP please come to the International Office: Cambridge - Helmore 122.
- We will help you report the loss of the BRP to the UKVI online.
- If your BRP was stolen, you will need to go to the police office to report it stolen and to request a crime reference number.
- The cost of a new BRP is £56.
- It usually takes up to 3 months for a replacement to arrive.
- You cannot travel outside of the UK without your BRP. Therefore please do not make any travel arrangements until the replacement card has been received.
- We will help you apply for a new BRP at the International office once you have brought in the required documents that we will advise you of.
- If you require the replacement sooner there is a premium service option that costs £556 which we can discuss with you in person.
