This Week's Sermon

On Sunday (Palm Sunday) we'll continue our series Peter: Growing with Jesus with a sermon from Erik on Matthew 26:69-75. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.

Happening this week

  • Our current final session of "The Heart of Evangelism" is this Sunday, April 9th. This course  on intentionally loving our neighbors will help you to build bridges with your neighbors, understand what others believe, and begin conversations that allow you to share your hope in Christ. Please RSVP to Joshua Earman (joshua@citychurchrva.com). Childcare is available upon request, please RSVP for childcare by noon TOMORROW (April 6th) so we have time to recruit workers. Contact Val Catrow (val@citychurchrva.com) with childcare requests.

Coming Up Soon

  • Good Friday Service: Join us at 7pm on April 14th at Grace Covenant for a Good Friday Service. The Good Friday service is a somber service of Lessons and Songs to help us mark the Passion of Jesus Christ our Lord. This service will be held in partnership with Grace Community Presbyterian Church.
  • Easter Event: All are invited to join us on Saturday, April 15th, 4pm to 7pm at the Stone House in Forest Hill Park (4021 Forest Hill Avenue) for our annual Easter celebration. This is a wonderful family-friendly (but NOT family-only) event that we look forward to each year. It's great way to introduce friends and family to the City Church community, so please bring guests along with you! Here's a PDF invite that you are welcome to pass along. The bounce house will open at 4; our egg hunt starts at 4:30; and dinner is at 5. City Church will provide the main dish, so please bring a side dish or dessert to share. We look forward to seeing you!
  • Men's Overnight: Gentlemen, save the date for this year's men's overnight: Saturday April 22nd through Sunday, April 23rd at Chanco on the James (about an hour from Richmond). Registration is $40 for tents or bunkhouse beds and $60 for interior double occupancy rooms. Dinner and breakfast are included. Use this link to register.
  • Women's Happy Hour: Ladies, bring a friend and join other women from City Church for a Happy Hour on Monday, April 24th atpm at the Quirk Hotel! Contact Meg Haden, meg@citychurchrva.com with any questions.
  • Decision Making and God's Will: Our next Christian Formation class is entitled Decision Making and God's Will. Over three sessions (May 12th, 19th, and 26th) we'll explore what it means to pray about and seek  out God's will in the decisions we make throughout all of the seasons of our lives. Classes meet from 5:45-6:30pm in room 303. A light dinner is provided. Childcare is available upon request; please send childcare requests to Val Catrow (val@citychurchrva.com) by noon the Thursday before the class meets. To RSVP to the course itself–or to get more information–contact Joshua Earman (joshua@citychurchrva.com).

Serving Our Community

  • Good Friday Blood Drive–Volunteers Needed! City Church will partner with Grace Covenant and other churches in Stuart Circle to host a blood drive on Good Friday (April 14th) from 9am to 3pm. The blood drive will take place in the Fellowship Hall of Grace Covenant. To sign up to donate, please visit redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code GOODFRIDAY. We are in need of a few volunteers to represent City Church at the blood drive. If you're interested in helping, please contact Mary Conkright at mary.conkright@gmail.com.
  • Mercy Fund Liaisons: We would love to add two or three (or more!) people to our Mercy Fund team. The Mercy Fund is a special offering taken up once  a month that we then use to provide emergency financial assistance to people in our congregation and community. Mercy Fund liaisons serve as points of contact for those seeking assistance and the church's broader diaconate. To learn more about serving City Church and the Richmond community in this way, please contact David Perks (dperks12345@gmail.com).
  • Candy Donations Needed! We are in need of candy donations for our Easter event on April 15th. Please bring a bag of wrapped candy to the City Church office by April 9th if you're able to donate!
  • EPPC's Toast to Life 2017: The East End Pregnancy Center’s annual fundraiser Toast to Life is on Saturday, April 22nd from 6pm to 10pm at Veritas School. The evening will include dinner, live music, a silent auction, and guest speakers Leslie Blackwell (Silent No More) and Terry Beatley (Hosea Initiative). To learn more, please visit eastendpreg.org or toast2life.org
Have a great week!
