Helping cats cope with change

If you've struggled to cope with a change in your life, such as a move, the sudden loss of a loved one or even a change in your current living environment, then you can likely relate to a rescued cat! Like people, every cat is different in how they cope, but for many, change is traumatic and they need patience and compassion while they adjust.

We hear from many recent adopters or new foster homes who are concerned that their new cat is struggling to adjust to their new situation, so we wanted to share some tips to help.

Thanks Jackie & SaskPower!

Congrats to SaskPower employee, Jackie Kruger who volunteered over 40 hours to Regina Cat Rescue and received $500 from SaskPower to present to RCR. SaskPower's Employee Volunteer Program rewards employees volunteering in their communities by providing funds to the non-profit organizations they serve. Great work, Jackie!

Thank you, photographers!

Following our call for volunteer photographers in the January e-bulletin, we had a number of people step forward to offer their time and skills. We want to give a big shout out to the following volunteer photographers - new and old - for helping RCR's adoptable cats find their forever homes: Kay-Lynne Purtill, Kyla Krenbrink, Erika Gayle, Lindsey Sawatsky, Renae Bradley, Wayne Gemmell, Sabrina Millis and Rod Mochoruk.

April's Metro Cat

Thanks to Metro Pet Market for Spaying It Forward! This month, Metro paid for Carmen's spay surgery as part of their on-going mission to foster responsible pet guardianship. Carmen is a cuddly and talkative cat who was found on Regina's streets and went unclaimed. Now she's spayed and ready for her forever home! View Carmen's adoption profile here and for more info about Metro Pet Market, visit metropetmarket.ca.

Visit Pet Valu East in April

Buy a "paw" at Pet Valu East (2035 Prince of Wales Drive) in the month of April to support Regina Cat Rescue! Plus, when you buy a paw (minimum donation $1), you'll receive a voucher for $5 off your next purchase over $40 at PetValu. All proceeds from paw purchases will be donated to RCR. We'll also be holding two adoption events at Pet Valu East from 1 - 4 p.m. on April 8  & 22. We hope to see you there!

Community cats need your help!

Do you have an hour or two a week that you could spend helping Regina's community cats? If so, we want to hear from you! We need volunteers to help deliver our Community Cat Feeding Program. Duties include providing food and water, looking out for new, sick, injured or pregnant cats and participating in spring and fall shelter cleanup. To learn more, please read the volunteer description or email us!

Women of Distinction nomination

Congratulations to Regina Cat Rescue's committee co-chairs who are nominated for a 2017 Regina Women of Distinction Award in the Circle of Friends category. We're proud to have you in our circle of friends!

Meet Luna

This month’s feature cat is Luna! She's a friendly and affectionate girl who was rescued from the cold this winter. She'd be a great pet for a young family as she gets along well with the child in her foster home. Learn more about Luna!

Get moving for RCR! Spring is here and if you're heading outside to do some physical activity, don't forget to use the ResQWalk app to raise funds for RCR! It's as simple as selecting Regina Cat Rescue and going for a walk, run, or bike!

Forever homes found. A total of 31 cats found their forever homes in March.

RCR's annual garage sale. It's time to check your attic and crawlspace for any unused items in good condition! We'll be collecting gently used items (no large furniture items please) ahead of our annual garage sale on June 1, 2, & 3.

AGM. A final reminder that RCR's AGM is taking place on April 22 at 1 p.m. at the Cathedral Village Community Centre (2900 13th Ave.). Everyone is welcome, but only members can vote. Hope to see you there!

Bingo! RCR always needs help working fundraising bingos. Upcoming bingo dates are April 12 & 26. If you can help, please email Margaret.

Save the date! Rock Out for Catz & Dogz is back, so mark your calendar for May 25! More details to come!

Photo of the Month! Caring for neonatal kittens is demanding, but very rewarding. These four two-week-old kittens are now safe in an RCR foster home, but with kitten season just around the corner more foster homes are needed. If you're up for fostering cats or kittens in need, email us!
