SAFETY AT THE GATE
Please don’t park in the P2 zone.
This is a drop off and pick up zone only. If you park and leave your car you are stopping the flow through for drivers and this causes problems further up the road.

Please don’t double park. This is very dangerous for your child.
LOST PROPERTY
Our lost property is overflowing.  If you have lost an item of clothing or a lunchbox please have a look, as anything left by the end of the term will be donated to the clothing bin.

MUFTI DAY
This Friday 7th April, we have a Mufti Day!  Children will need to bring a gold coin to wear mufti for the day.  The money raised will go to classroom wet weather day games and activities.

Teachers are in the process of buying the sports equipment for their classes from the money we raised on our last Mufti Day.  Thank you for your support!
Scholastic Book Club Orders:
Book Club orders are due this Friday 31 March.  Please hand all orders into the office or order online via LOOP.
WATERWISE
On Friday the 31ST of March, Room 6 went to Waterwise at Birkenhead Wharf.  Some of Room 2 came with us.

Waterwise was an awesome experience because we swam to the buoy and we did wharf jumping. Every hour a ferry would come, so if we were on the wharf at that time, we would have to lie down on our stomach, because the waves the ferry made would rock the platform.

We also had a great time sailing and kayaking.  Some people got to go on the speedboat with Mr Spencer or Mr Lydford.  We can't wait to do it again.

LIFE EDUCATION TRUST
Welcome back Harold!

As part of our Health programme next term we are very excited to have Harold and Jenny back with the Life Education caravan to share their knowledge of the human body and how it works.

In weeks 1 and 2 the whole school will get to visit the caravan 2 or 3 times to link their learning of the human body to our Inquiry focus in Term 2 of Systems.  The cost per child is $7.  Below are the questions for each year level we have asked Harold and Jenny to help us with.

Year 0/1
What does our body need to stay happy and healthy?
What do all living things need to stay alive?
Where does our food come from?

Year 1/ 2
What’s inside our bodies?
What makes our bodies work?

Year 2/3/4
What makes our brains work better?
What makes the brain the control centre of our body?
What are the 5 senses and what do they do for us?

Year 4
Why do we need to eat different kinds of foods to stay healthy and give us energy?
Where does our food come from?
What does our body need to stay happy and healthy?

Year 5/6
What makes our bodies work?
What’s inside our bodies?
Why is the air we breathe important to us?

You also have the chance to meet Harold and Jenny on Thursday 4 May at 8.30am to discover how Life Education will deliver this amazing programme to our children.  Please come along and see why our children love Harold and Life Education.
LEARNING THIS WEEK:

First we have to get newspaper and some pastels on the table.
Next we have to get a piece of paper and draw the scribbly pattern.

Sports:
Shore to Shore Fun Run and Walk
Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday morning at the fun run!  Whether dressed up as a funny character or just as yourself, it will be a great occasion!

It is such a neat opportunity for you to exercise and have quality family time.

A number of staff members will be there and we will have our stall set up where we will be cooking hot sausages for the participants.  The event starts at Takapuna Grammar School and ends with spot prizes and fun at Milford Beach.  See you there!

Weekly Basketball Updates
Breakers
Target Road Breakers had their first game this Tuesday in League 5.  With only five Breakers, they had to play the whole game without any subs.  Feeling physically tired they showed resilience by playing the entire game.  The final score was a loss of 24-0, but the Breakers put in a huge effort to catch up with the other team.  The Breakers are still learning the rules and practicing basic individual techniques to improve their performance.  To our excitement, the Breakers have tried many more times to pass the ball to each other which is showing their improving teamwork.
The Target Road Bullets taking a break after the big game.
Bullets
What a pleasure watching every game of TRS Bullets.

With a shy start and a bit of confusion on court at their first game the TRS Bullets have become stronger and more determined by winning their second game.  The players were very proud and it increased their confidence.

On Tuesday afternoon this week the TRS Bullets played against Beachhaven Bulls.  Both teams played well.  The Bullets dominated the first part of the game being ahead 8-2 at the break.  BH Bulls fought back stronger after the break bringing a final score of 8-8, a draw.  TRS Bullets definitely felt like winners, not for the final score but because they worked together as a team supporting and communicating well with each other and given everything they could on the court.  Bravo TRS Bullets!

Raptors
On Tuesday the Raptors played Bayview.  Due to the sticky hot conditions and only having five players, it was a tough night on the court.  It was a very close game with both teams putting good passes together, however it was Bayview who won by 3 points.  The final score was 8-5.  Katie Pahi displayed excellent shooting skills by scoring all the points.

Magic
The Magic played their first game in grade one this week and we knew it would be challenging. They held their own for most of the first half but Campbell's Bay were a tough team to keep up with.  Everyone tried their best and left it all out there on the court.  Final score was 16-4 to Campbell's Bay.  Reset, refocus and back to the grind next week team, keep working hard and the results will come.
