Meet violist Che-Yen Chen.

That's a really big viola.
Name: Che-Yen Chen
Nickname: Brian
Instrument: Viola
Friday night libation: Gin and tonic
Favorite piece that's being performed at PCMF 2017 and why: The Brahms Clarinet Sonata in E-flat (even though it sounds better on the viola). I'm not playing it this time so I get to sit back and enjoy!

What are you looking forward to most about spending a week in the Bay Area? Playing music with friends and coming to participate in Wayne and Juliana's passion project!

What's the craziest or most memorable thing that's happened to you during a performance? This happened to Joseph Lin (a former member of the Formosa Quartet and current first violinist of the Juilliard Quartet) during a performance of the Debussy Quartet: his bow flew out of his hand, bounced off the stand, and ricocheted back into the same hand. He kept playing without missing a beat.
2017 PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS!
Honestly, we think that each and every piece in PCMF's 2017 season is a highlight. But there's something for everyone this summer: from Jasmine Lin's toe-tapping, genre-busting arrangement of Stephane Grappelli jazz tunes, to Debussy's dreamy, pastoral Sonata for flute, viola, and harp, to Thierry Pélicant's rollicking Milonga for seven musicians, we've got your musical tastes covered. Check out our website for sample clips and complete program information!
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
Not only did last year's volunteers become a valuable and beloved part of the PCMF family, but we also wouldn't have been able to put on a festival without them! These are just some of the ways you can get involved with PCMF next summer:

- HOMESTAYS: Hosting a musician is a wonderful way to get to know some of our artists. We're looking for homes that are close to the Piedmont Center for the Arts.
- POSTERING: We need volunteers to get the word out by putting up our posters and flyers all over the community in early June.
- POST-CONCERT RECEPTIONS: Our receptions are a great place to meet friends, neighbors, and musicians in the beautiful setting of the Piedmont Center for the Arts. We are looking for people to provide light food, serve wine, and help with setup and cleanup.
- MEAL HOSTS: Have the entire PCMF team (9-10 people) over for dinner, or bring lunch to the Piedmont Center for the Arts and join us between rehearsals! Our meal hosts last year loved hearing our stories, and our musicians couldn't stop raving about the food.
- GROUND TRANSPORT: We may need drivers to help musicians get around Piedmont. That cello isn't going to walk itself to rehearsal.

If you're interested in any of these opportunities or would like to offer other skills or resources, please contact us and we will be in touch!
