On April 5th, our Pi Zeta chapter at ASU welcomed 27 new members into their chapter. Immediately following the Initiation ceremony, the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter served dinner to over 90 women. The Annual Taco Buffet was a huge success, thanks to the help of alums Jamie Randall, Mary Peterson, Kristen Weston-Smith, Dusty Tingstrom, Mary Pat Pepping, Lee Ann Witt and Lorna Green. Several of the chapter women were also a great help with the clean-up. The Alumnae and the Pi Zeta women enjoyed lengthy conversations, comparing notes. My, how times have changed!
The Excitement Continues for Tucson Alumnae in 2017!
These sisters are on the move
Hacienda del Sol was the perfect setting for the first luncheon on April 03, 2017 of the newly chartered Tucson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Zeta and is pictured above. The alumnae chapter certification from the National Council of Delta Zeta was presented to the members.
New name tags were presented by Nancy Karsh, treasurer, to all our charter members. Congratulatory notes were read from Susan Norman, Arizona State Alumnae Chair; Lorna Green, Phoenix Alumnae Chapter Treasurer; and Elaine Jeffers, Area Alumnae Director-Great Western Area. We now proudly join our fellow sisters from the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter in representing the National Council of Delta Zeta Sorority in Arizona.

Tucson Alumnae Chapter positions: Suzan Bryceland, President;  Nancy Karsh, Treasurer; Biana Russo, Secretary; Vicki Hildebrand, Events; Karen Ray, Tucson Panhellenic Representative.

Suzan Bryceland and Nancy Karsh shared information on the delightful Turtles and Pearls luncheon held by the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter at the Gladly Restaurant in Phoenix on February 26th. Suzan B. was recognized for 50 years of membership and now is the proud recipient of the Golden Rose Pin.

A letter of congratulations was sent to Beta Theta Chapter at Bucknell University (Pa.) on their installation on April 02, 2017. Tucson members, Suzan B. and Nancy K. joined the Tucson Panhellenic in sorting bread items for the Tucson Food Bank on April 8th. See Nancy waving in the above photo and Suzan is in front of her. This is one of several projects sponsored by Tucson Panhellenic and now Delta Zeta is represented at Tucson Panhellenic.

A special tour of the Tucson Arizona School for the Deaf on April 10 was provided by Shelly Camp, Principal, with a discussion of possible philanthropic projects. These will be shared with the members at the June 12th luncheon. Enjoying this informative session were: Vicki Hildebrand, Nancy Clay, Elaine Malchus, Martha Johnson, Nancy Karsh, and Suzan Bryceland as shown in photo.

Tucson's Founder's Day luncheon is set for Saturday, October 14th at Hacienda del Sol Resort. Vicki H. has arranged for all luncheons through December be held at this fabulous place.

Let's lunch on DZ's!!
Phoenix Alumnae Pearls & Paints
On April 21 Phoenix Alumnae met for Pearls and Paints where DZ's shared wine and appetizers (chocolate covered bacon which looked like paint brushes included) and each painted a picture. An amazing painting time was had by all.

Delta Zeta Dukeout 2017 was a success! As one of the most competitive philanthropies, we had 23 fraternities and two sororities participate for their chance to obtain the Dukeout Champion title. We held four benefit nights at Chipotle, Raising Cane’s, Baked Bear and Buffalo Wild Wings where we made $2,407 towards our Dukeout total. We held our annual pancake dinner on Thursday, two nights prior to the Dukeout where fraternity men and Delta Zetas enjoyed hanging out with their friends, listening to music, eating yummy pancakes and picking up their Dukeout apparel! Dukeout was held, despite the rain and 60 degree weather, at Meyer park and featured an all day long flag football tournament. In addition to a great DJ there was Icee Sparkling Juice and Red Bull vendors present making the event a day to remember. Overall, Delta Zeta Dukeout raised $37,406 for our beloved organizations benefiting speech and hearing. Thanks Autumn Peck VP of Philanthropies for this wonderful report.

The first weekend of April, Delaney Collins, Cailey Colombo, Ashlyn Napolitano, Emily Mangafas, Emily Ronningen, Sierra Marker, Brittany Thurman, Remi Thorn, Allie Dyer, Sydney Warsaski, Nina Torres and Sophia Mattera of our Pi Zeta chapter traveled to Los Angeles to attend the national Delta Zeta event, Truly Connected at Paramount Picture Studios in Los Angeles. We had the privilege to learn and listen to the success stories of Delta Zetas around the country. At the end of the conference, we were graced with a personal shout out from the National President of Delta Zeta highlighting the great attendance of Pi Zetas there. It was a truly amazing pleasure to attend this amazing event, and learn from the outstanding accomplishments of Delta Zeta alumnae around the country. Thanks Delaney for this report.
Phoenix Alumnae Philanthropy
Phoenix Alumnae have been working with the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf providing a scholarship for graduating seniors since 1983. This year the Philanthropy committee has a new application process to award our Claudia Edwards Hosking Memorial Scholarship(s). Phoenix will award scholarships based on applications which this year include essay questions and teacher recommendations for those continuing their education.
Last year we were able to award three students a total of $2500 in scholarships. You are invited to attend the Awards Ceremony at the school May 16 from 1-3pm when the scholarships will be presented. It is always a moving occasion and a chance to meet the students and parents. Photo is from last years ceremony with our Philanthropy Chair, Natalie presenting the scholarships.
The National Council of Delta Zeta Sorority announces Heart for Hearing Day to be celebrated May 2, 2017 and the first Tuesday of May each year thereafter. Heart for Hearing Day coincides with the start of Better Hearing and Speech Month, which is a national effort to raise awareness about communications disorders. On this day, each member is encouraged to tell her friends about the Sorority’s efforts to meet global needs for improved hearing health, and her personal efforts to raise money for that purpose. Speech and Hearing has been at the center of Delta Zeta Sorority philanthropy efforts since 1954.
Alumna Spotlight-Sandra Sebrell Bailey

Sandra (Sandy) Sebrell Bailey loves to garden, read historical novels, and travel. She also is a HUGE Ohio State University football fan--understandable, as she is an OSU graduate.

She became a Delta Zeta when she was initiated into Theta Chapter, and she has remained involved in sorority life. "Through Delta Zeta, I have lifelong friendships and opportunities for leadership," she says.

Sandy majored in Education (K-8) and taught for seven years. She has been "a full-time volunteer" since then. She served on the DZ National Council for three years, and the DZ Foundation for 12 years. She has been director of Leadership consultants, Extension director, and National Panhellenic rep, and she is currently Scholarship grantor and House Corporation trustee at Kent State.

Sandy has three children, seven grandchildren, "and one husband since 1959!" She says she has "a passion to travel" and has visited more than 100 countries, with her favorite being India.

As Sandy is now a charter member of the new Tucson Alumnae Chapter, we are glad she traveled to the Southwest and made Arizona her part time home. We look forward to getting to know this dedicated Delta Zeta sister!

Photo is from 2014 National Convention in Tucson. L-R Jeanine Petersen Triplett, National President in 2014 now our National Panhellenic Delegate, Phoenix Alum member, Karen Lange and Sandra Bailey. Sandra and Karen were presented to the delegation as they were both among the Golden Roses at the Alumnae luncheon at the 2014 National Convention.

Delta Zetas are Volunteers
Congratulations to our Phoenix Alumnae President, Ashlee Lepa. She is a Volunteer of the Year finalist at Nationwide Insurance (which has 34,000 employees). There are 9 finalists and a Volunteer of the Year.
This Trilogy is now available on Amazon. All three children's fables are beautifully illustrated by our own Delta Zeta Phoenix alumna, PJ Heyliger.
Become a member of Phoenix Alumnae Chapter in 2017

In an effort to simplify our collection of yearly membership dues, Phoenix will now be collecting from January 1 - December 31 (instead of Fall through Spring the following year). Therefore, please send Lorna our treasurer your dues for the 2017 year any time now. Thanks to those that have already done just that! We hope this change will make it easier to remember if you paid dues. It will also make it easier to do our Annual Report to National and yearly membership directories.

Dues are still only $35, with $10 going to National and another portion going to Phoenix Panhellenic. We are still a bargain! Thanks to your support, we are able to do quite a few things for the Pi Zeta Chapter at ASU, as well as award scholarships to graduating seniors at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf and of course our alumnae events. We would love for you to join us for an alumna activity, but if you are unable to do so, please consider supporting us with your membership anyway to allow us to continue with these activities. You can pay using any major credit card via this link or mail a check (made out to Phoenix Delta Zeta Alumnae) to our Treasurer, Lorna Green, at  4723 E. Voltaire Ave., Phoenix, 85032.
Delta Zeta Phoenix & Tucson Alumnae Calendar Events

All Delta Zeta Alumnae are welcome to attend any sisterhood or event in the Phoenix or Tucson Area. Our sisterhoods are a great opportunity to meet newly graduated sisters, sisters who are new to the area, or those sisters who are just looking to reconnect. We hope you will join us for social events, community service projects, networking, and other gatherings of DZ alumnae and friends.
