Foreign educated physicians (FEPs) seek BS/MS in Nursing at FIU

Message from FIU & Barry University in South Florida
2017: Ponder

THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to a fabulous academic year! Your faithful support is the anchor God uses to firmly secure a campus witness for Christ. Together, we sailed into unchartered waters and found Jesus among foreign educated physicians -- even though many hail from the 10/40 window of unreached people groups!! We hosted multiple outings and cultural events. We also kicked off the IV-FIU book club, with Andy Crouch's Strong and Weak, which challenges us to embrace a life of love, risk, and true flourishing. Two Chinese students came to America and found Jesus; one met her American born baby brother for the first time! With old and new friends, I completed the certificate level in the phenomenal 15-week Perspectives course.

Jesus was exalted and friendships extended in many forms since classes began last August: just checkout our events calendar here

Every December, I ask the Lord to give me a word to serve as an anchor for my Bible meditations throughout the year. The word for 2017 is ponder. Synonyms include consider, weigh, make level, contemplate, regard, understand, discern, and pause to reflect. The Psalms use the term selah. Our life voyage can only gather momentum as we take note of the riches of God's plan along the way and trust the compass of His Word to steer our course.

Thanks for making this marvelous journey possible!

Traveling from the East in Search of the Baby Boy

When Qianran asked if I'd accompany her to meet her half-brother for the first time, we didn't realize what an adventure we were heading into. It meant spending Christmas Day away from my family. God proved to be Emmanuel, God with us.

I'll save the long story for a future letter but suffice it to say that God uses the weak to confound the wise. The baby considered incurable by atheist Chinese authorities was rescued by a Christian adoption agency in the US and found his way to an amazing, loving home. Nine months after his sister answered God's call on her life, and now four years and a dozen operations since his parents had to sadly surrender him, this energetic, funny and smart boy is thriving and spreading cheer in a small, Midwest town. God goes before us and restores what the locust has taken away.
Raise Future Leaders
No Small Miracle

I was asked to intercede in prayer for a Syrian refugee who arrived in the U.S. less than two years ago and happened to call a faculty (member of InterVarsity) about joining an academic program. He had recently married an American Jew who was studying occupational therapy. At their bidding, the professor unveiled Jesus to them over several phone calls during the application process.

Then, we heard he got all the paperwork and U.S. Homeland Security clearance needed to be accepted to the university - no small miracle, considering the process usually takes about nine months — just to be cleared by the US government! He was approved by the authorities and accepted in less than a month!! His wife joined him in Miami when she completed her program in another state. God is truly the God of all nations!

Send Love to Campus
The Family that Prays Together

This year marked the beginning of Prayerful Tuesdays. The FIU-Biscayne administration offered a dedicated room for prayer and we said, "YES!"

Every Tuesday at 10:00am and 5:00pm undergraduates, graduates, faculty, and staff join together to intercede for our government and university leaders, fellow students, extended family, and the world.

Prayer is just one of several weekly events. We also host special on- and off-campus events. Check out all our offerings on the IV-GFM calendar.
