Trust me, this was not an easy decision at all. No, this is not an April Fool's Joke! Just read the story, then this will all make sense. Before I started The Texture Mix, "they" told me that I couldn't do it! They said, "Natural hair is a fad! How are going to come up with the money for something like that? It will never work! " My friend told me, "Johnene, you're going to create this subscription box!" I kind of sat on the idea for a year, then I had a dream about it. Like I was packing The Texture Mix in my dream! Crazy right? Have you ever dreamed about something so deep that you had to do more research on it. Well...

My research required prayer! I mean lots of prayer! Was this the solution to natural hair problems? Could I really connect manufacturers directly to consumers every month? I didn't have many connections, but I did know that half of the "stuff" on the beauty aisle wasn't working. The worst idea is the one that is never tried, right? I couldn't live with the guilt of knowing that I could have potentially changed the way an entire industry thought about natural hair. I wasn't really moved until...

I thought about what I'd already been through. "Remember when you lost all of your hair?" Yeah, I get a huge lump in the back of my throat everytime, I think about the night my hair rinsed down the drain from that stupid relaxer. I was in my dorm room like can someone just TELL ME WHAT TO USE! Why is this such a puzzle? Why is my hair so complex? Why do I have to use most of my part-time paycheck to play Eni Meenie Minee Moe at the beauty supply! Why are the store associates so clueless about my hair? I was mad at myself for not knowing too! Ugh, it was crazy, but not to get off the topic...

I realized that this decision was bigger than me. It really wasn't my place to say that I wouldn't start this business. It was due time to pull together with other naturalistas, so we could get down to the REAL vs the FAKE! I thought, " If you don't do this, you'll be letting down your sisters in My Natural, Inc. You'll be letting down all of the family members that rely on you for your resources and advice! You'll be the one to blame for that poor lady that just got tricked into purchasing that cream that's going to sit on her hair like, "Girl Bye!" Yes, it was that deep! I didn't want to keep thinking, so...

I took that big leap of faith in June 2016 and launched The Texture Mix! I'd never felt more fearless, more challenged, more brave in my life. However, I felt like, Girl, this better work because your SAVINGS is on LOW! No, seriously, it was an internal battle, but PRAYER was still the center focus. Finally, THE LIST OPENED on June 15th and I could not breathe until the FIRST ORDER came through! I was like...

SWEET BABY JESUS! Thank you for not bringing me this far to leave me! Then, the first survey came in and it said, " I LOVED EVERYTHING IN MY MIX.....!" Chile, I could have thrown my Ipad across the floor! This was REAL! It was really happening, I was in the beginning phases living my dream. So, this message is to say, Thank You! Thank You for trusting me and The Texture Mix family to help you be introduced to authentic hair products that love your gorgeous hair. Now, you're probably thinking, Well, why are you shutting down?
