LAST MEETING

ACCLA's March meeting was brought to order by President Betty Eiseman at 1:20 PM. To accommodate the speaker, the usual order of business was dispensed with and we began with the presentation.

Professor Robert Cleve was the featured presenter. He gave a wonderfully illustrated, erudite talk entitled The Ancient Roman Port of Ostia. He started out circulating an inscribed brick among the audience and built up from there! He covered the history of the port, its commerce, and the life of its citizenry. In addition to the usual vote of thanks, President Eiseman presented Prof. Cleve with a certificate and a fiftieth anniversary T-shirt. Thank you Bob for another outstanding presentation.

Following the break, Joe Tooma and Bob Effler gave a brief show and tell and we returned to the usual agenda. Treasurer Barry Rightman gave the Treasurer's report. Secretary Michael Connor reported that we now have 1,320 followers on facebook. He also reported that Joe Tooma will host the next club auction at the May meeting. Vice-President Roger Burry reviewed upcoming meeting programs.

Roy Iwata reported on his experiences manning an ACCLA table for the three days at the Long Beach show. He was given a well-deserved round of applause for this amazing act of volunteerism.

President Eiseman then called for a brief business meeting. On a show of hands it was decided that ACCLA would remain a member of the California State Numismatic Association (CSNA) and forgo membership in NASC and the ANA. President Eiseman then presented certificates to Kenneth Friedman and Barry Rightman, the joint winners of the Barbara Rightman Award for 2016. She tasked Roger Burry with buying certificates and Barry Rightman and Michael Connor with updating ACCLA's bank account.

The meeting then moved into the usual round robin of sharing of information and acquisitions. Guest David Michaels talked about a hoard of darics and upcoming Heritage Auctions; Lorrie Ann Hambly writes a column on various topics of interest that Heritage shares.
