Easter Humor
by Kainoa Fukumoto

We had the great privilege last month of joining with ROL's Parish Lenten Mission led by Jesuit Fr. Phillip Chircop. The last evening of his talk, he spoke about being people of Easter joy. So as we approach the great season of Easter, here are a few Catholic jokes to hopefully put a smile on your face and a little joy in your soul.

Q: What do you call a Catholic liturgy that is very, very important?
A: Critical Mass

Q: Why did the priest giggle?
A: Mass hysteria!

Q. Did you hear about all the drama down at the convent?
A. Well, it's nun of your business.

Q: Where is the best place to get a ice cream cone?
A: In a Sunday School

May this most sacred time of the Liturgical Year bless you in a profound way and may God's grace and mercy be upon you everyday!
EPIC Ministry joins our friends at OLGC for a special presentation by JUDY MCDONALD!

Judy McDonald has been a professional comedian for the past sixteen years and a Catholic all her life. She has shared her unique way of evangelizing on TV, military bases, conferences, comedy clubs, and parishes all over the United States and the world.
Do you have unused clothes that you no longer wear or need?

Use this season of Lent as an opportunity to clean out your closets and make a donation to our EPIC Clothing Drive.

Donate gently used clothing throughout this Lenten season at any of our EPIC Faith Sharings.  Donations will go toward to a nonprofit organization or shelter that helps those in need.  More details coming soon!
It's that time again when EPIC Ministry hosts its annual Krispy Kreme fundraiser.  Proceeds subsidize costs such as our Big Island and Kalaupapa retreats as well as continuing to support the work of this ministry.

Chrism Mass Celebration for Oahu
Presided by Bishop Larry Silva

Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa
712 N. School Street
Honolulu,HI 96817-3030

The Chrism Mass typically takes place on Holy Thursday or some other day of Holy Week. However, the Diocese of Honolulu, being divided into islands, results in the celebration of the Chrism Mass on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, and Oahu.  This allows for neighbor island priests to be present. At each Mass, Bishop Silva formally blesses olive oil in large containers to be distributed to all the parishes priests throughout the island. Three oils are blessed at this annual Mass:

  • The Oil of Catecumens - is used to bless people prior to their Baptism and during enrollment as catechumen, students of the faith preparing for Baptism.
  • The Oil of the Sick - is appropriate when administering the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, formerly know as Extreme Unction.
  • Chrism Oil - is for newly baptized persons. The Bishop also uses Chrism Oil when administering the Sacraments of Confirmation or Holy Orders. Like Oil of the Sick and Oil of Catechumens, Carism is made from olive oil but unlike the other two, balsam is added to make it more fragrant and appealing to the nose.

A LOOK BACK AT MARCH
March 17, Beer Lab | EPIC and fellow young adults had a blast celebrating St. Patrick's Day together over great conversation and beer, many wearing green in St. Patrick's honor.

March 27, ROL | This month's community night coincided with Resurrection of the Lord parish's day one of their 3-day Lenten Mission, which was lead by visiting Jesuit priest, Fr. Philip Chircop. Through his gift of humor and wisdom, Fr. Philip challenged all to respond to God's call of building His Church by truly living and loving as Easter people.
