FC+ UPDATES AND FUNDING

1. FinCEAL Plus Rolling Call for Grants under the new Partnership Support Instrument
Through this Call, researchers can apply anytime for any of the following: Travel Grants, Event Grants, Project Preparatory Grants and also the new Research Visit Grants. The planned activity must be related to cooperation with African, Asian or LAC partners, in any of the FinCEAL+ regional thematic areas. Read more here.

2. FinCEAL+ LAC Targeted Travel Grants for European Latin American Technology Based Business Network events in Buenos Aires and Lima
FinCEAL Plus has opened a Targeted Travel Grant Call to support the participation of experts from Finnish universities or research institutions interested in attending events organized by the ELAN - European Latin American Technology Based Business Network.  More information

3. LEAP-Agri announces a joint call for research on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture and Aquaculture
This call invites consortia composed of at least four research organisations and/or private and public practitioners from four of the LEAP-Agri partner countries to submit project proposals for research and innovation in food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture (FNSSA). 4. FC+ Indonesia - Finland Seminar: Opportunities and Challenges in Research Collaboration was a success!
Indonesia-Finland research seminar was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Helsinki on April 4th 2017. The seminar was co-organized with the Embassy and the University of Helsinki. The seminar gathered 45 participants including researchers, research funding organizations and government representatives and other stakeholders from Finland and Indonesia. Read more
 

5. EC Innovation Centres Survey
 

The European Union is funding the projects CEBRABIC, ERICENA and NearUS which are to establish European Research and Innovation Centres in Brazil, China and the United States respectively. These Centres will provide a comprehensive and diverse range of services to support and facilitate collaboration in the areas of research, innovation and business for their customers – including European research and technology organisations, universities, national and regional funding organizations, national and regional authorities, research infrastructures and networks, SMEs, start-ups and entrepreneurs.
 
The aim of this survey is to gain a better understanding of the needs of prospective European customers and ecosystem stakeholders when collaborating or partnering with research, innovation and entrepreneurial support organisations from Brazil, China and/or the US. This will facilitate the Centres to offer an efficient set of tailor-made services. Please answer the survey here and feel free to disseminate it within your networks.

Call for applications: Falling Walls Lab Turku 24 May  –Application Deadline extended until 7 May
Falling Walls Labs foster discussion on research and innovation and take place globally throughout the year. The Turku Lab is hosted by the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University, and organized by the Aboagora – Between Arts and Sciences Symposium. The call for applications is open until May 7th.

CEBRABIC - New Centre for Europe-Brazil Business and Innovation Cooperation

CEBRABIC aims at enhancing the cooperation in research, technology and entrepreneurship between the EU member states and Brazil. CEBRABIC will be a Centre working on a network basis. Its headquarters and representation offices will be located in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Internationalisation enables Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) to access new knowledge and high level partners. This report builds both on insights from the academic literature and practical experiences of RTOs. The main empirical input for report stems from a joint workshop organised by the JRC and EARTO on 21 June 2016.  More information

New global report on food crisis offers benchmark for action needed to avoid future disasters 
Despite international efforts to address food insecurity, around 108 million people in the world were severely food insecure in 2016, a dramatic increase compared with 80 million in 2015, according to a new global report on food crises released in Brussels on 31 March 2017. Read more

India and the EU have been important R&I partners since 2001 and the collaboration is significant, both at EU level and at bilateral level in the field of STI. The study adopts a qualitative approach, and monitors the outcomes of the cooperation between both regions.  More information

JRC Technical Reports: Innovation and Regional Specialisation in Latin America
The Smart Specialisation concept, currently implemented in the European Union, is being widely considered by several countries and regions of Latin-America. The interest towards this approach, highly based on the enhancement of regional innovation capacities, is motivating territorial dialogues, participatory processes and collective vision related to the innovation perspectives of Latin-American regions. This article highlights how policy makers of Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina are considering the smart specialisation concept as an inspirational driver of regional innovation and specialisation.
