Vera’s new speaker series—Getting to Zero: Shutting Down Girls’ Pathways into Incarceration Speaker Series—brings together local and national experts to discuss common paths that lead girls and transgender/ gender-nonconforming (GNC) youth into the juvenile justice system—including getting arrested while in the child welfare system, family conflict or violence, and school discipline/ expulsion. Each speaker series event coincides with a convening of Vera’s multi-agency Task Force on Ending Girls’ Incarceration in New York City.
Today, the first installment of this series will tackle the importance of addressing issues that lead to the incarceration of girls, including involvement with the child welfare system.
