Building A Family Business Around The Nyckelharpa
Earl Holzman’s life has always revolved around music. He met his wife DoAnn folk dancing in the early 1980s, and their son Ian Holzman became a fiddle player. It’s only fitting that Earl would later become a luthier, a person who builds stringed instruments.
Over time, as Ian began playing the nyckelharpa, Earl built a family business around the Swedish folk instrument. Earl became an expert at building these traditional instruments that have 16 strings with 37 wooden keys. Watch how this craftsman mastered the art of building the nyckelharpa!
