Mandatory Composting Continues to Expand

Come July, nearly all jurisdictions participating in Alameda County’s Mandatory Recycling Ordinance will have organics collection requirements for businesses and multi-family buildings with five or more units. ENFORCEMENT UPDATE: Notification Letters

You may have received an "Official Notification" letter in the mail, informing you about the requirements that apply to your business under the Mandatory Recycling Ordinance. The letter may or may not mean that you are in violation of the Ordinance. In either case, the Official Notification is simply the first step in our formal notification process. If you received a letter that indicates an observed violation based on an inspection, you need to take steps to correct the violation. Expanded Reusable Bag Law - Effective May 1

The Reusable Bag Law for Alameda County expands to all retail stores in the county effective May 1. Stores will need to charge at least 10 cents for paper or reusable (including thick plastic) bags. More info at www.ReusableBagsAC.org.
