Welcome to our first joint newsletter from the joint Open Data NZ and Data.govt.nz teams. We wanted to make it easier for you to get your open data information from one source. You'll start to see some new work rolling out over the next few months on Data.govt.nz as we work to improve both the platform and the content.
Highlights from our past couple of months include:
Open Data now at Stats NZ: The team are on Week 4 in our new location at Stats NZ. Stats NZ aims to unleash the power of data to change lives so our focus hasn't changed. You can read more about our shift here.
An update on adoption of the Open Data Charter: We've been actively working to roll out Commitment 3 of the Open Government Partnership National Action Plan. We just have to tick a few boxes before we share more, but we'll have the next update on the Charter's adoption to you in May. In the meantime, you can check out our engagement summary report here.
Celebrating Open Data Day 2017: We partnered up with our buddies at GovHack, National Library & Stats NZ to run a mini-hackathon on International Open Data Day in Wellington. You can read more below.

Open Data Resources
Open data resources are now located at data.govt.nz. You can access the open data handbook, 13 short interactive e-learning modules & NZ's open data toolkit. We have new resources coming out over the next few months.
The lastest open data case study introduces HuntingSpots - a new tool being developed to support those who enjoy hunting & fishing. The case study talks about some of the data challenges being experienced & how better data would help development of a better tool.
Six great projects were created at our mini-hack with an environmental focus on International Data Day. We joined in with the 300 events around the world to celebrate open data. Read the blog & check out our video from the day to learn more.
The Sunlight Foundation's Open Data Policy Wizard is a great starting point to begin drafting up your policy.
The wizard starts with a few simple questions to personalize the format & then emails you the completed policy template. A simple & easy-to-use tool!
The new data.govt.nz cataloguing platform (CKAN) is going live next week and users can check out our new 2-minute video which provides guidance for government agencies & showcases some of the new functionalities.
