New DDE arriving on 13th March

We're very excited to be able to announce that - fire, flood and technical hitches notwithstanding - the brand new direct data entry (DDE) system will be launching for all users on Monday 13th March.

We'll send confirmation at the time, but we're currently scheduled to turn off the old DDE system at 18.00 on 11th March. We'll be putting up a help page with lots of information and links, so don't delete your bookmarks just yet - and to prevent last-minute panic, don't forget to check and update your information.

Everyone who has registered their information with us will be sent a new username and password over the weekend. More help and information will be available on the Culture24 site and at http://www.24hourmuseum.net/production/dataentry.

All your information and events are being updated in the new system already. As soon as you have a username and password to log in to the new system, you'll be able to see and edit all your existing information.

Things you need to know:
  • The new system is based on individuals rather than venues: You'll get your own username and password rather than sharing with everyone at your venue.
  • You will have a dashboard of your own, which will link to all the venues you work with - no more logging in and out of venues.
  • Password reminders will be automatic from now on, and linked from the login page.
To make sure that you're set up in the first set of users, please head to this form and give us your information if you have not already done so: https://culture24.wufoo.com/forms/understanding-your-organisation/

Mobile for the Cultural Sector - 10% Discount for Culture24 subscribers

CultureLabel.com and Camerjam have created a two-day conference designed to help cultural organisations explore how mobile can build new audiences, commercial revenue streams and fundraise. With 20 million smart phones in the UK alone this is the fastest growing digital space (Mobile SQUARED).

Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries is the keynote speaker.

In brief, it's basically two days with leading mobile brands and thinkers. There will be speakers from Vodafone, O2, Tate, Nokia, Penguin, British Library, Harper Collins, Tesco, Blackberry and a ton of digital gurus such as Jonathan MacDonald and the BBC’s Bill Thompson alongside workshops to help people come up with practical ways forward for their own organisations.

Dates are 8th - 9th March and all details are at http://www.camerjam.com/events/mobileculture

Enter the following discount code to claim your 10% off: 20C24

The venue is the amazing new Ravensbourne College right outside the door of the O2, London (the Millennium Dome)

BBC Hands on History

As you may know, Culture24 is the official cultural data provider to the BBC and we've been working to register cultural organisations and channel their activities to the BBC via a range of project themes, starting with Hands on History.

Since the partnership launched last autumn to coincide with the Turn Back Time series, over 300 museums, galleries, libraries and heritage organisations have registered and are linking their activities to Hands on History.

With the new Things To Do website now set to launch in early Spring, the BBC team have given us a sneak preview of some of the projects and promotions coming up in 2011 that partners can get involved with, including:

- The Reel History of Britain - a 20-part series in which Melvyn Bragg takes to the road with a vintage mobile cinema to reunite people with footage of their ancestors.
- Digging for Britain - Dr Alice Roberts returns for a second series to reveal some of the newest finds, research and social history via large scale archaeology digs.
- Domesday Reloaded - the BBC reopens the 1986 Domesday project to chart some of the ways Britain has changed over the last 25 years.

With plenty of other projects in the pipeline, now's the perfect time to sign up to be a BBC partner with our online registration form here: https://culture24.wufoo.com/forms/culture24-bbc-things-to-do-partner-registration/

If you are already a partner, please take a moment to check that your activity details are up-to-date and looking good (with photos!) on Culture24.

For more details on how to register as a BBC partner or feature your activities on Things To Do, please contact Conrad, our Activities Editor: conrad@culture24.org.uk.

May 13-15 2011

The Museums at Night campaign (Friday 13th - Sunday 15th May) is growing more quickly than ever, with over 150 events already confirmed.

Over the last few weeks, Rosie and Nick have travelled around the country inspiring groups of venues to take part in Museums at Night. They also ran a successful Museums at Night Discovery Day for Visit England Destination Managers at the National Maritime Museum.

Rosie made this video answering the most frequently asked questions about Museums at Night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLPjm9BPf1A. Interested? It's not too late to take part: here's how to register your events in Culture24's database http://www.culture24.org.uk/places+to+go/museums+at+night/art312454.
