Lesson 2013: Resurrection Alternatives, Pt.2

Unbelievers have invented 2 more alternative theories to explain the resurrection:

Wrong tomb - the women were not sure which rock tomb was Jesus’, due to the hasty burial and dim light at dawn.  They met a gardener or grave worker who tried to point them to the correct tomb, but they fled.

Obstacles:  Matt.27:61 tells that 2 Mary’s directly observed the burial and size of the stone.

Joseph, John, Peter, the Jewish authorities or the guards certainly would have corrected the women within hours of their claim that Jesus’ body was missing.

“Lettuce” - the gardener was so upset about curiosity seekers trampling over his lettuce patch in front of the tomb that he moved the body.

This was actually one of the earliest non-Christian theories, according to 2nd century church records.

Obstacles:  the gardener would have had to answer to Joseph (owner of the tomb), and would have been prevented by the guards anyway.  How would he have moved the stone and left the grave cloth undisturbed?
