Now go
deeper
Greetings!

Astrologically, today interpersonal dynamics are complicated while the gracious Libra Full Moon glances over at the assertive Aries Sun, which normally might be fine but not today. Somehow we are feeling less willing to cooperate in the name of peaceful coexistence. And it gets worse, as our opinions grow more rigid when the Moon enters fixed Scorpio later - so watch your reactivity please and avoid difficult conversations! Remember, it never hurts to practice kindness.

Now, along with the chilly autumn weather here, we also face three weeks of retro energies. From yesterday, April 10th to May 4, things may go a tad haywire.

Three or four times a year, Mercury passes the earth in its orbit. As it rounds the bend, Mercury slows down and appears to stop (station) and spin backward (retrograde). Of course, it really isn't moving backwards, but much like two trains or cars passing each other, this creates the optical illusion that one (Mercury, in this case) is going backward. Mercury rules communication, travel, and technology - and all three can slow down during this time and cause some frustration.

So how not to have a nervous breakdown? Don’t start anything new. Review all your contracts before you sign. Renew your commitments, rather than making new ones. Prepare to repeat yourself often.

Mercury retrograde can crash electronic equipment - so it's wise to back up your computer, calendar and cell phone address book. Expect delays if traveling, and pack a book to entertain yourself while you wait for the late bus or plane. Get in touch with old friends – and don’t be surprised if people from your past track you down. You might also hear from the most randowm ex-partners and childhood classmates during retrogrades. Mercury also rules contracts, so think before you ink. Either wrap up important negotiations before the cycle starts, or wait to sign documents until Mercury goes direct.

Mercury retrograde do’s and don’ts:

DO: Review all contracts and legal documents before signing. Pause and breathe before speaking. (Repeat yourself if necessary!) Read all emails and documents before you send. Insure/track important mail and packages (Mercury rules the postal system). Get your vehicles (or bikes) tuned up, pack an emergency roadside kit. Leave early for any travel and appointments, since Mercury Rx can delay flights. Renew your commitments instead of making new ones. Plan reunions with old friends & loved ones (but prepare for possible mishaps!) Expect to hear from/run into people from your past at the weirdest moments. Get sentimental. Reconnect with your roots, walk down memory lane. Practice forgiveness. Finish processing what’s unresolved so you can let it go. Confirm all dates, plans, meetings, appointments. Think of the retrograde as a quarterly review period, a chance to pause and finish what you’ve started.

DON’T: Buy new vehicles, electronic equipment or gadgets (unless they come with a good return/repair policy). Sign contracts without a thorough review (delay until Mercury turns direct if you can). Fly off the handle or jump to conclusions if someone misunderstands you. Run into the arms/bed of an ex without careful screening (Mercury reunions aren’t always meant to last). Shoot the messenger if someone from your past comes around. Put anything sketchy into an email or text (you could hit “Reply All” or send to the wrong person!). Leave late for flights or appointments. Start anything new on top before finishing what’s ahead on the to-do list. Lead people on, give mixed messages, or believe everything you hear (actions speak louder than words). Spread rumours, rant on social media or share unconfirmed information. Turn in sloppy or unchecked work, cut corners, dash off hasty communications. Inspect to protect!

This week, be wise - and take advantage of this retro - and you’ll emerge fresh and ready when Mercury goes direct. As the cliche goes, what you resist persists. The more you can embrace chaos or a lack of control (and isn’t control an illusion, anyhow?), the better you’ll survive this cycle.

warmly,
Lucy

How To Overcome Depression The Tony Robbins Way

Tony Robbin’s #1 lesson from his whole depression series, the bottom punch line, is that the fact is for the majority of us who experience depression: depression is a choice.

You probably don’t want to hear that. I don’t. I cringed when hearing it as I studied this stuff again earlier this morning. But my desire to jump out of depression was more important to me than my ego; more important than my desire to blame something else and not take responsibility for feeling the way I do.

So, I accept. And as soon as you accept depression is a choice, liberation from depression can take place literally instantly.

Tony Robbins explains that depression is a state of mind we reach by taking deliberate steps. In other words, it’s a sequence of decisions we make, consciously or subconsciously; it’s something we learned.
The good news is, is that means it’s something we can unlearn and control!

If you watch the full series, you will see Tony demonstrates this fact with an audience member on the spot in front of everyone by asking the lady, Tahnee, to get depressed. To show the audience how she does it.

The first adjustment we notice from her is how her body changes. Our physiology is the first corner of the triangle of depression Tony Robbins Research calls the Triad of Depression:
The three ways depression can be achieved is through:

1) Physiology/Posture –how we physically hold our-self has an effect on our nervous system. Our physiology/posture of our body literally communicates with the brain to inform it that we are depressed and it begins creating the emotional chemicals of depression.

2) Language – the words we use to internally/externally describe our current moments. Words have powerful influence over us because we have given words meaning. If we describe ourselves as worthless, or describe our day as being painful, the brain will immediately begin generating the corresponding emotional chemicals, and propagate such feelings. That’s because we associate the word “worthless” with a host of negative meanings. If we describe our-self as worthless, the brain listens to our thoughts and begins generating the corresponding emotions of depression

3) Mental Focus – what images are we producing in our heads? What are we visualizing? What experiences or emotions are we imagining? If our focus is on negative things, the same process begins, where the brain will produce depressive emotional chemicals.

In conclusion, recognising that I am in control and responsible for the things I am doing to get to depression, helped me snap out of this behavior.

So I began doing the opposite of what I did yesterday. I began moving my body and erecting my posture. I began describing my day as super awesome, that today the 4th of July was gonna be epic, fun and meaningful. Sure enough, it has been! I began visualizing my back as feeling better, and taking action steps to alleviate the agony, such as icing, cupping, and swim therapy; and I as of now my back is totally feeling relieved!

The truth is I fell so hard into my old patterns yesterday its not even funny. I totally let myself fall apart. Yes, my back pain was in fact ridiculously piercing. Yes, my back pain did in fact yesterday night torture me enough to prevent me from being able to fall asleep, as I showed in my previous video blog. Which did in fact cause sleep deprivation, and I did feet like absolute shit all day.

But still, getting depressed was a choice! Feeling down was still my own responsibility!

I still could have kept my physiology, language, and focus positive. But I allowed myself to sink. I bought into the negativity. I forgot that I have control over my emotions.

I have so much to be grateful for in my life. Some people right now in some places across earth are literally killing each other and dying over the lack of fresh clean drinking water. At any moment I can walk into the kitchen and drink clean water. If I want to, I can go shower and bathe myself for hours in clean drinking water. I have access to all the water I want.

So I say: enough is enough!

I got up about 3:30am today, because I got up to use the restroom, and I was so pissed I couldn’t even fall back asleep. Annoyed at falling into depressive behaviour patterns again.

I will not continue letting my circumstances become my identity!

I knew I needed to shock my mind to snap out of it. So for 4 hours starting from 3:30am I began scouring the internet, soaking in countless you tube videos, and listening to a multitude of audio recordings from people like Tony Robbins, Will Smith’s wisdom videos, Eric Thomas’s motivational series, Jim Rohn’s 4 Moments that Change Your Life, Bruce Lipton’s Biology of Belief.

I turned my psychology around so fast I felt absolutely compelled to share this experience with you guys. I sincerely hope this video helps you as you march forward through your night or day. You are just moments from feeling better!

Anytime you are feeling depressed, just follow these steps:

1) Blow away your mind with an avalanche of information about the truth of depression, remember it’s up to you! You possess the ability to correct your own behavior.
2) Keep your physiology/posture confident and erect.
3) Use powerful and positive words to describe your day; play make-believe if you have to. How bad do you want to feel better? Do whatever it takes then!
4) Mentally focus on what you do want in life; what things do you have in life that are going well for you? If you had to be grateful, what are you grateful for in your life right now?
Picture and visualize about people, places, and situations in your life that excite you and fulfills you. Again, play make-believe if you have to.
5) And lastly, super charge boost-up your mood by doing what I do on a regular basis:

Flood your mind with hours of extraordinary stories of inspiration. Shower your mind in hours of electrifying motivational speeches. Bathe yourself in positivity!

And never forget: you’re not alone! For one, I’m right here with you going through similar experiences in life. And so are millions of others. I feel you! Stay strong! Conquer the war within!

Making Time For Our Truth As Women
The times that we are navigating are asking us to find our way through together. There is a place that as women, we have lost touch with. It’s an inner place; a place of guidance, the place where our truth lives. We are out in the world, shaking things up, getting things done, taking care of business. We wonder then, why it feels hard to sit still, to listen to our own wisdom.

I recently interviewed Glennon Doyle Melton, and when I asked her where to start when we feel lost and confused, she said to start with 10 minutes. “If (a woman) has 10 minutes a day she has all the spirituality she needs to know what to do. She can sit quietly and practice listening to the still small voice inside her that will tell her what to do—and then trust it.” She also says it’s important to take the pressure off by giving yourself permission to not act on it. “Tell yourself you don’t have to do anything about it now, but don’t pretend it’s not true.”

I’ve experienced the power of taking time everyday to listen to my own voice. As a daily practice, it’s illuminating, even in small doses. There is an ancient tradition that combines the listening and the gathering that is known as the Moon Lodge. The modern moon lodge has become a place to connect women, to celebrate sisterhood, and to honor the divine feminine.

Lucia Horan, a global retreat leader and teacher of 5Rhythms and Buddha-Dharma, describes the divine feminine:

"The divine feminine is born with the power to transform. She appears in many forms; meaning there is a sacred nature to all faces that our life take as women. However, many women do not see the many faces of their existence as sacred. Instead they have an image of what beauty is based upon what is fed to us by the media."

It is a great challenge to see beyond the societal conditioning. From this expanded view rests the perspective that beauty comes from the inside. It is something that is felt rather than seen. In order to feel that, one must learn practices that bring qualities of sacredness, acceptance and appreciation to the body, just as we are. Through this process we begin to cultivate a relationship to ourselves that fosters well-being.

Through her workshops, Horan sees the need for a sacred space for women to come together so they can share the experiences of their lives in a safe way. She recognizes that there is the opportunity to begin to heal old wounds when this space is held by women for each other. She says, “If one is willing to show up to the truth, then it is possible to shift what has disempowered us in the past into what empowers us in the present.”

Horan brings the element of release and purification into the experience through her artful teaching of the 5Rhythms dance. She also incorporates seated meditation, and describes the benefit of that combination: “The method of the 5Rhythms is a practice of externalisation, which releases stress out of the mind and body. In doing so, a tremendous amount is released and activated in the nervous system.

Seated meditation allows for the nervous system to be reset as we integrate what has moved. The Buddha taught that meditation should be practiced standing, sitting, laying down and in all bodily functions. By practicing both moving and sitting meditation, there is the opportunity to explore mindfulness within the full spectrum on life.”

By creating the space, whether it is taking ten minutes in your day to be still; or taking five days out of your year to immerse yourself in your truth, you can empower yourself to go back into the world more fully. When you are renewed, inspired, and heard, your path will become clear. Horan talks of the daily routine of self-care rituals as a way to carry an energy out into the world that is transformative for ourselves, and for those we encounter.

Today, Stephen Wiltshire is one of Britain’s best-known artists. His commissions have a four- to eight-month waiting list, and videos of him sketching panoramic cityscapes in perfect scale have a tendency to go viral. But when Stephen was in school, his teachers didn’t know what to do with him. Diagnosed with autism at age three, he didn’t say his first word (“paper”) until age five. Still, as a child, Stephen could sketch stunningly accurate images of wildlife and caricatures of his teachers.

Later he began drawing the buildings he was seeing around London with impressive detail. His older sister Annette would take him to the home of a school friend who lived on the 14th floor of an apartment building, so he could see a sprawling view of the city. He marveled at its layout and landmarks. From that point on, she says, “his passion became obsessive.”

At age eight, he got his first commission - from the British prime minister. Language didn’t come easily until the next year, but by age 13, he had published his first book of drawings. The public and the media became fascinated by the young teen’s incredible memory. Stephen was featured on television shows and in documentaries about so-called savants.

On a trip to New York for an interview, he met Oliver Sacks and drew a perfect replica of the neurologist’s house after taking a quick glance at it. “The combination of great abilities with great disabilities presents an extraordinary paradox: how can such opposites live side by side?” Sacks later wrote in the foreword to Wiltshire’s second book.

Two years later, in 1989, he visited Venice and drew his first panorama. From then on, Stephen became known for his incredibly detailed cityscapes, each done from memory with hundreds of streets, landmarks, and other minutia in perfect scale. He drew cities around the world, from Jerusalem to Sydney. His latest project brought Mexico City to life on a 13-foot canvas. In New York, he took a 20-minute helicopter ride and then sketched everything he saw onto a 19-foot-long piece of paper as viewers watched live via webcam.

In 2006, Prince Charles presented Stephen as a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his contributions to the art world. That year, he opened his own gallery in central London. Today, his photograph welcomes visitors to London’s Heathrow airport.

This Week's Review: Getting Past Your Past: Take Control of Your Life with Self-Help Techniques from EMDR Therapy by Francine Shapiro

Shapiro is the noted psychologist who created the groundbreaking technique known as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which allows patients to overcome traumatic incidents in their past that affect their day-to-day lives.

Originally used as a tactic for veterans suffering from PTSD, EMDR has proven major results in patients who are triggered by experiences and memories without their control.

Shapiro's book offers an overview of the therapeutic practice, but more importantly gives its readers a simple understanding of its foundations and plenty of techniques that can be done at home in order to move beyond the traumas of their past.
