Great Lakes Chambers Deliver Infrastructure Projects List to Congress
The Great Lakes Metro Chambers Coalition (GLMCC) expressed their support for federal infrastructure legislation and presented a list of priority Great Lakes region infrastructure projects to Congress last month during the coalition’s annual fly-in and lobby days in Washington, D.C.
Building in part off the input gathered by the Regional Transportation Alliance (RTA), the list includes projects critical to the Pittsburgh region: Bus Rapid Transit to connect Oakland to Downtown and appropriation of federal dollars for critical waterways infrastructure, among others.
The GLMCC, which the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) co-leads, attended more than 50 meetings with members of Congress and staff, making the case for the coalition’s highest legislative priorities. The coalition capped its meeting in Washington by delivering their infrastructure priority list to Congressman Bill Shuster, Chairman of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.

Pittsburgh Innovates
Last month, the GPCC partnered with the U.S Chamber of Commerce’s Technology Engagement Center to host Pittsburgh Innovates – an event highlighting the various forms of innovation, from energy to health care, bringing opportunity, talent, jobs and growth to the Pittsburgh region.
The event, which was held at the Energy Innovation Center, provided attendees with an engaging overview of the leadership that our region is providing to propel new and emerging technologies that are changing lives, industries and our economy for the better.
The GPCC recently signed onto a letter in support of federal research and development funding, a critical component of the region's innovation economy. The letter was prepared by "Business for Federal Research Funding," a nationwide coalition of more than 65 chambers of commerce. You can view the letter here.
