Fantastic news everyone: The brand new Maya Centre website is here!

As you know, in the 21st century, our website is our primary point of contact where clients and supporters can find out more about Maya Centre and the vital services we offer to vulnerable women in our community.

At the same time, we have also engaged a professional graphic artist to revamp the Maya Centre logo to be as fresh, bold, and as welcoming as possible. The site itself – resplendent with the new logo – has been launched today – just 2 days before our Summer Open Day for Clients on Thursday 6th July.

In today’s newsletter, we will also be asking to save another date in your diaries – 12th October 2017 – for a special event entitled, Women’s Voices: Who is Listening?’

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new website and re-brand.

After months of planning and hard work it’s finally here!

So what’s new?

The launch of the new website, offers quick and easy access to essential information on Maya Centre and its client services. The website boasts a modern layout and is divided into four sections: Who we are, What we do, Need Help and Help Us. Each page provides detailed information on all four aspects of our charity.

The website offers two new special features: a ‘listening’ area, which is formed from a project called ‘My Voice’. Here you can listen to clients who participated in recording their personal stories of survival and their journey of recovery with each other, as part of a series of five storytelling workshops run in partnership with Sound Delivery. These personal testimonies were played for the 1st time to an audience of special guests & supporters at our House of Lords reception, hosted by our Patron Baroness Massey.

Other new functions include: a client community support area, where clients can easily access information on a calendar of events & workshops organised especially for them. Plus an area to make direct contact with our dedicated community support worker for women in need of
practical help.

It’s responsive too!
As a lot of us are always mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads our site has also been optimised for smart phones and tablets, which means that all of our visitors should be able to access our content on the go.

Help us page
We’ve also made it easier for you to choose ways in which you would like to help us, with the new layout of our Help us page. If you’d like to fundraise your own way we have a new platform called Local Giving.

We are part of the London development programme, which means we have the opportunity to boost donations with their match funding scheme.  See more below on ways in which you can support by setting up your own fundraising page.

We have new branding

Our new site gives us a fantastic platform to build on as we aim, as always, to continue to develop our services for clients and engagement with our supporters – so watch this space!
We know how busy you are but if you have a minute, have a browse and see what you think. We’d welcome any feedback and thoughts - thank you.

Summer Open Day - “The Wall And the Well”

All Maya Centre clients are warmly invited to join us for the evening of talks, food and company on our Summer Open Evening on the 6th July 2017 5pm-8pm

We invite all women visiting the Maya Centre to contribute to our interactive conversation by adding their post- it notes comments about their understanding, experiences of and feelings about mental health onto the Wall! The activity will culminate in a group discussion on the night, followed by surprise performance and building the Well.
We look forward to meeting all the women on this evening of nourishment for the body, mind and the soul. Hope to see you there!

Women’s Day Celebrations at the Maya Centre

On the 8th of March we celebrated International Women’s Day with Body shop, complementary therapies, food sharing and spending time together. It was a pleasure to host our clients and see so many women catching up with each other, enjoying the treatments, activities and food.

The participants  said:
“I had a lovely time, it was amazing.”
“Feeling of being valuable once again rang through the evening!”
“It was a great evening for celebrating International Women’s Day- Thank you!”

I am Project

The fourth round of our popular educational art workshop ended in June. The participants created some amazing pieces of art which will be displayed during the summer open Day.

The next planned workshop date is 5th of October

Quotes from women  who participated in the last workshop:
“I learnt to value myself and self-care”

“I used to avoid art as I would want things to be perfect (…) now I feel challenged to try new things and work on art more”

“I learnt that I have achieved lots in life and I should be proud of it. I am stronger than I originally thought and can challenge behaviours that are unwanted.”

“I am very grateful this was available to me. Thank you very much”

Women in Parliament visit

Our first information workshop entitled “Women In Parliament'' took place in February and March.
It aims to help women to gain skills that would allow them to understand and influence decisions that impact them most and to gain confidence to influence and contribute to debates around issues such as mental health provision or prevention of violence against women.

Our patron Baroness Doreen Massey hosted participants in the House of Lords.

Quotes from our service users about their visit to Parliament
''The trip to visit Parliament with our host Baroness Massey was really a once in a lifetime experience! Exploring the path taken by the inspirational women we had been learning about and stepping into the broom cupboard that Emily Davison had hid in, was such a privilege as well as fun and exciting...''

''We had the privilege of being escorted around by Baroness Doreen Massey showing us all the important areas in the building and answering any questions that we had...we  also sat in on a live debate.''

Fundraising

Year 9 pupils from Whitefield School & First Give

First Give work in partnership with secondary schools to help young people to give their time, tenacity and talents to improve their local communities. Over eight lessons, the programme encourages an entire year group of students to identify social issues in their area and engage with local charities that address them. Year 9 pupils from Whitefield School, chose to research women & mental health.

We were delighted to welcome the pupils to our center to learn more about our work. The scheme also helps to train pupils with a kickstart into skills such as public speaking, in readiness for the opportunity to compete for £1,000 of grant money.

The team representing the Maya centre was judged to have to have made one of the best presentations in their school and secured the 1st prize of £1,000 to donate to our charity.

Thank you to First Give & a big congratulations once again to the fantastic students who helped to raise awareness of our cause and wining the first prize!

Local Giving
Localgiving designed to give small local charities the opportunity to connect with people and fundraise online. Throughout the year they provide specific campaigns to give charities the opportunity to boost their donations by match funding.
If you’d like to get active with making fundraising pages for your own event or personal challenge you can support us by setting up your own fundraising page

We are also very grateful to our friends & supporters who give regular donations and attend our fundraising events.

With Thanks

To all our staff, patrons & trustees for their hard work and dedication to the Maya Centre.

Thank you to all our friends & supporters
