Cap-Net mobile application now available for iPhone

The Cap-Net UNDP mobile application is now available for iPhone. The application enables users to access training material developed by Cap-Net and its partners, as well as online courses running on the Cap-Net Virtual Campus and the latest news from the networks. The application is designed to be a modern tool to learn and put into practice the latest knowledge on sustainable water management. You can download the iPhone app by following the link below.

Vote for issues to debate at the 8th World Water Forum

Since mid-February this year, people from around the world have contributed to a set of online discussions (called Your Voice) that will help to prepare the 8th World Water Forum in Brasília-Brazil, in 2018. After 6 weeks of lively debate, 90 water issues have been identified and are now presented for voting at worldwaterforum8.org, in 4 languages.

Until April 23, worldwaterforum8.org provides the opportunity for anyone to vote for the issues that should be debated at the 8th World Water Forum. Make sure to cast your vote by following the link below.

4th International Faecal Sludge Management Conference arranged in Tamil Nadu, India

The 4th International Faecal Sludge Management Conference (FSM4) was arranged in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 20th-22nd February 2017. The aim of the conference was to bring together professionals working in the sector, including utilities, service providers, cities, governments, academics, scientists, consultants, donors and industries, to support the global initiative of disseminating sustainable solutions for sanitation faecal sludge management. WaterNet and partners organise the first AfriAlliance conference in Ekurhuleni, South Africa

The first AfriAlliance Conference took place in Ekurhuleni, South Africa, from 22nd to 24th March, 2017. The conference was organised in parallel to the Local Climate Solutions for Africa 2017: Water and Climate Congress. WaterNet led the sessions on how to enhance knowledge sharing and technology transfer among regional actors. Read more about the conference by following the link below.

Workshop on climate change adaptation tools arranged by Cap-Net Lanka in Sri Lanka

A training programme series on “Institutional and Management Capacity Development of Farmer Leaders in Medium Irrigation Schemes to Cope with Climate Change”  has been initiated on 30th March 2017 by Cap-Net Lanka. The aim of the programme is to increase awareness among farmers and other local actors on various methods to cope with climate change. The programme series is arranged together with the Sri Lankan Water Partnership and includes 60 farmer leaders and agency staff.

SaciWATERs organises workshop in Telangana State, India

South Asian Consortium for Interdisciplinary Water Resources Studies (SaciWATERs) organised an event on 23rdand 24th March 2017 to mark the occasion of World Water Day. The event included a wide variety of stakeholders including policy makers, government officials and community representatives from Telangana State, India. The topic of the workshop was current water issues and policy gaps in the newly created state.

7th Edition of the Water Photography Competition: Water in Pictures

Arg Cap-Net invites you to participate in the 7th Edition of the Water Photography Competition: Water in Pictures. The competition is organized by the Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias Hídricas - Universidad Nacional del Litoral (FICH UNL) and the newspaper El Litoral, and is sponsored by Aguas Santafesinas Sociedad Anónima. The deadline for submitting your photo is 5th May, 2017. Read more about how to participate by following the link below.

On the World Water Day, the new 2017 edition of the United Nations' World Water Development Report, “Wastewater: The Untapped Resource”, was released. The report demonstrates how improved wastewater management generates social, environmental and economic benefits, and is essential to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As part of the master’s programme in  in IWRM, the inscription for the course on Integrated Management of Water Resources has been arranged by Arg Cap-Net. The master’s programme in IWRM is an cross-disciplinary postgraduate programme of the National Universities of Córdoba, Cuyo and the Coast, created on the initiative of Arg Cap-Net. You can read more about the master’s programme here (in Spanish).

A presentation of United Nations’ World Water Development Report 2017, released on the World Water Day, was arranged in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on 31st March by CAR@WAN. During the event the report, highlighting the potential of utilising wastewater as a resource, was presented followed by discussions among participants on different potential uses of wastewater and opportunities enabled by the new mind-set presented in the report. Experts in the field of water resources management in Kyrgyzstan and public authorities delivered presentations on the topics of wastewater, sanitation and health of the population in Kyrgyzstan. UNEP-DHI, SIWI and UNDP Water Governance Facility are launching a webinar series on linking SDGs 6 and 14. The webinar series aims to highlight the importance of understanding the cross-disciplinary connections to achieve SDG6 on freshwater and SDG14 on oceans, and the value of integrating efforts to reduce negative effects and maximize potential benefits. The first webinar is on the topic "From Source-to-Sea" and will be arranged on April 20th. UN World Water Day Summit 2017

The World Water Day Summit and Expo was held as part of the commemorations for the World Water day celebrations on 22 – 24 March 2017 in the City of Durban, South Africa. The summit was officially opened by the President of the Republic of South Africa, President Jacob Zuma. The summit was also attended by officials from UN-Water, UNESCO, World Bank, African Development Bank and AMCOW. President Jacob Zuma launched the UN World Water Development Report 2017 “Wastewater: The Untapped Resource”.
