HELLO ART FRIENDS & ENCAUSTIC ENTHUSIASTS!
Spring has finally arrived in the Pacific Northwest! Despite lots of wind, rain and chill, I have been staying relatively warm in my newly-remodeled encaustic painting studio. MANY thanks to David, my partner of 11 years, for building such a great space! So far so good, as they say, although I DO miss my daily "climb" up the captain's ladder to work in the loft! I still create encaustic monotypes and monoprints "up there", and I admit that the loft is still my creative "hearth".
I am THRILLED to be offering a new workshop, Ethereal Landscapes with Pigmented Wax and Oil-Based Media, August 5-6, ArtWorks, Edmonds, WA. I will be showing you how to create beautiful, "ethereal" minimalist landscapes in small format. An array of essential encaustic techniques will be introduced, along with instruction on combining encaustic (warm, pigmented wax) with oil paint, oil sticks and oil pastels. Think "JMW Turner meets Wolf Kahn"! If you are not from the area, schedule a couple of days to take in the Seattle sights, and enjoy our little art haven called Edmonds (beaches included!). On another note, I have been so fortunate to have ongoing monthly art get-togethers here in my new painting studio (climbing the captain's ladder is NOT required"). I have created Warm Wax Wednesdays for local encaustic artists to come, play, eat, drink and relax. It's been a wonderful success! I am still hosting Encaustic Open Studio sessions at ArtWorks in Edmonds, WA. These usually occur on the first Fridays of the month, and run from 1-5 pm. All YOU need to bring is your art supplies! I provide all heated tools and equipment. Please check the ArtWorks calendar, then send me an email to register. Previous encaustic experience IS required, as this is not a class. Join me! EXCITED ABOUT MY UPCOMING SHOW AT UW TOWER IN SEATTLE!
I'm painting madly and madly painting for my upcoming show at the Skybridge Gallery, University of Washington Tower, in the U-District of downtown Seattle. I'll have a few of my "vintage" works and lots of new works showing, including paintings, monoprints and assemblage. Don't be surprised if you see a few "politically-leaning" works...Heh-Hemmm...
