Community Connection                      Volume 3

On Wednesday, March 8, 2017 fifteen students and community members came together to discuss what they are excited, concerned and hope for the future of Madison. The resident panels are the public engagement plan that the City of Madison put forth to ensure underrepresented communities share their ideas and voices. Latino Academy students and Bridge Lake Point/ Waunona residents had lots to share. Some highlights from the discussion included wanting a safe, secure community, multi-generational education programs, nature conservation and an efficient transportation system. We are excited to report back to the city and continue this three part conversation.
LATINO ACADEMY'S STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
Meet Isabel & Juan: Investing in their Education
Isabel and Juan were classmates in the Spanish GED class and both are deciding to continue investing in their education and enrolled in Puentes: Bridge to Madison College Program.
Isabel, started 2016 in our Pre-Ged class and quickly moved to GED and graduated within a year. She asked a lot of questions, was persistent and failure wasn't an option. She set out to obtain her GED by the February Graduation Ceremony and she did.
Juan was also diligent with his studying and completed his GED in just two semesters. He immediately enrolled in Puentes and was the inaugural recipient of Latino Academy's College Scholarship. We look forward to attending their Madison College graduation in the near future.
THE HARD FACTS AND OUR IMPACT
On April 5th people wore orange to spread awareness about Work Zone Safety. Latino Academy is proud to have two students working for Dane County Highway Department and 3 more interning this Spring. As an agency we have experienced a close call and want to emphasize the importance of slowing down and moving over in work zones. #WorkZoneSafety
