Celebrating Earth Day Every Day

Earth Day is fast approaching! How can you help your students and colleagues go green all year long? The things we do to save the earth don't have to be hard or time-consuming. Check out this list of 17 easy ways to reduce our footprint and this kid-friendly resource to educate students about the environment. So, when April 22 rolls around, let's congratulate ourselves for the things we have already been doing and challenge ourselves to adopt a few more simple earth-saving actions into our daily routines. After all, it’s not about a single person doing one huge thing, but about all of us doing small things, every day, to make a powerful impact on our world.

New! TEKS-Aligned Exhibit Guides

With the rising pressures of standardized testing and an already jam-packed school year, we are always looking for ways to help teachers connect field trip content to classroom curriculum. Our new Exhibit Interaction Guides help teachers get the most educational bang for their buck during their free exploration time at the Science Mill. Each guide demonstrates specific classroom correlations in the form of warm-ups, reviews and project-based learning endeavors. Inside you will find vocabulary connections, writing prompts, modeling ideas, sentence stems, content review and STAAR review questions. Staying true to our commitment to get students invested in STEM careers, we have also added career correlations and links for them to learn more. Just one more reason for you to bring your students to the Science Mill this year!

Stand Up for Science!

As an educator, you know just how much science matters. Will you join us as we defend the role science plays in our everyday life? Science serves us all. It protects our air and water, preserves our planet, saves lives, creates new industries, puts food on the table, educates the next generation and safeguards our future. But with impending budget cuts and censorship, science is under attack. Now is the time to take a stand and show how much we value science! Meet the Science Mill team at the Governor's Mansion (1010 Colorado St.) on April 22 at 11:45AM and we will walk over to the Capitol together. The march begins at 12PM. View the full March for Science schedule and get more info here.
