In response to the horrific chemical attacks in Idlib, that killed over 100, including at least 25 children, and injured over 750,  and the ongoing attacks throughout Syria, UOSSM USA launched a fundraising campaign to help provide emergency medical care, supplies, medications and support to those who need it most.

UOSSM Releases Comprehensive Hospital Report 

UOSSM released the UOSSM Syrian Hospital Study, the most comprehensive of its kind. 
Key Findings of the Syrian Hospitals Surveillance Report:
• All 107 hospitals examined in Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia, Hammah, Daraa, Quneitra, and Homs were hit at least once by a direct airstrike. Some hospitals were struck as many as 25 times. On average each hospital was attacked three times in 2016.
• Three-quarters of the hospitals su...rveyed were located in buildings not designed to house medical facilities and were in fact makeshift hospitals, ill-equipped to provide the needed medical care. Four were dug in caves.
• More than half of all hospitals’ staff had no training to prepare for or respond to airstrikes, or chemical weapons; and one third of hospital staff had no experience in occupational safety or risk management.
• There is an alarming scarcity of medical specialties like vascular surgery, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery, and the relevant equipment needed. Certain specialities' manpower, such as general surgeons, was down by 25% from the year before.
• As a result of this data, UOSSM for the first time concludes that new measures are urgently needed to protect hospitals and medical workers from aerial attacks."

UOSSM Receives Award From WHO in Recognition of Outstanding Efforts in Aleppo Medical Evacuation 
UOSSM along with other NGOs that assisted in the Aleppo evacuation, received an award from World Health Organization (WHO), in recognition of their outstanding efforts in the medical evacuation.
This evacuation would not have been successful without the hard work and dedication of over 195 staff and volunteers from UOSSM.
UOSSM Hosts International Conference About Syria Health System During Ongoing Crisis
UOSSM hosted an international conference about the health system during the ongoing crisis in Geneva, Switzerland, to rethink sustainable options for relief operations in areas of conflict, the urgent need to rethink how NGOs can continue to deliver humanitarian medical relief to areas where the structure of a health system is absent, and ways to ensure and match the international standards of health care during crises, even in the most complicated situations.
UOSSM Opens Psychological Support and Trauma Management Centers to Help Children of Refugees in Syria and Turkey 
UOSSM opened two new centers in Reyhanli, Turkey, and Idlib, Syria in the beginning of 2017.
These centers were opened in response to the need for assessment and evaluation of the psychological needs of Syrian refugee children.
The centers will provide children with improved coping strategies, and flexibility.
New techniques such as usage of video and audio clips will provide initial comfort to the children and assist in psychological trauma management.
There will be several programs offered such as self-learning, and each program will be adjusted according to each individual, which will ensure that parents and therapists can use these techniques anytime, anywhere.
UOSSM Offers Specialized Training Course, Women's Surgery in Bab Al-Hawa Qualification and Training Center
The UOSSM Bab Al-Hawa Qualification and Training Center offered a specialized training course in women’s surgery.
The course consisted of lectures and hands on training for surgical operations in operating rooms of UOSSM Bab Al-Hawa Hospital.
The goal of this course was to raise the qualification skills of staff working in reproductive health care. There was a total of 48 gynecologists and general surgeons from inside Syria that attended the course.
This is part of a series of training courses that UOSSM, in partnership with Islamic Relief, started providing in the last quarter of 2016.
UOSSM ended the training and qualification course for staff of health care directorates in Syria, that began in the end of 2016, which provided a total of 21 courses from a variety of management subjects.
UOSSM Provides First Training Course of its Kind, Called, “Family Tracing and Reunification” in Syria
The UOSSM Qualification and Training Center provided the first course of its kind called "Family Tracing and Reunification” (FTR)
The object of this course is to train staff in Child Protection Agencies on how to deal with children that have been separated from their loved ones.
A total of 30 UOSSM staff that work in mental health projects and psychosocial support projects took the course, along with some guests from other NGOs that work inside Syria.
UOSSM hosted 32 training courses, in a variety of subjects, throughout the month of March in centers in northern and southern Syria, and Turkey.
There was a total of 115 days of training, and 607 trainees.
The most prominent courses were a training course in first aid and conflict zones which was provided in partnership with IWPR.
The course lasted for 20 days in Gaziantep, Turkey.
UOSSM Supports Bab Al-Hawa Hospital by Providing Two Ambulances
UOSSM continues to provide support to hospitals and medical facilities.
In the month of March UOSSM provided two ambulances supported by Muslim Aid to Bab Al-Hawa Hospital.
Bab Al-Hawa Hospital provides services to over 20,000 patients a month.
UOSSM Distributes Medical Consumables to Three Health Care Centers and One Mobile Clinic in Daraa; Responds to Emergency Needs in Daraa and Ghouta
UOSSM distributed three shipments of medications and medical consumables in March. The supplies were distributed to Primary Health Care Centers in Hamer, which has provided services to 20,471 people, Sawra, which has provided 33,698 consultations, Adwan, which provided 29,432 consultations, and to a mobile clinic which provided 10,691 consultations in the Al-Lajah area in Daraa since UOSSM began to provide services in these centers.
UOSSM responded to the urgent need for support in areas under severe distress from the crisis in Syria.
UOSSM provided support with medications, medical consumables, and other necessities in Daraa and Ghouta.
